Denzel was laid on his bed with Rex - well, more accurately he was half laid on the bed and half out of the open window. His arms were dangling outside, his chin resting on the window sill as he sulked.

His missed Eiko. He understood why Cloud and Tifa were mad, of course he did, and having Cloud get mad at him was the worst feeling ever. He let out a heavy sigh. Being grounded sucked. It was so boring.

It was time to take Rex for a walk. Being grounded, Marlene and Denzel couldn't do it, so Tifa was taking her turn to search for the dog. He wasn't outside or anywhere in the house that she'd looked... Denzel's room was the only place left.

Tifa knocked on the door, just in case he didn't want to be disturbed. "Denzel? Is Rex in there?"

At the sound of the knock Denzel flopped his arms back inside the room and rolled over the bed to his feet, dragging his feet towards with the kind of stomp that only a sulking almost-9 year old can manage.

He opened the door, pouting. "Yeah... Rex is in here..." He called the dog over to the door. "Are you taking him away?"

Denzel had been sulking. Big surprise. Tifa nodded, choosing not to comment on his obvious bad temper. "I need to take him out on a walk. It's okay, we won't be long."

She gestured for Rex to come to her. "Here, boy. Time for a walk!"

"Can't we come too? Just for a little walk? Please~?" Oh, Tifa how can you say no to those big, sad puppyish eyes. "We'll be on our best behaviour." And getting out of the house would stop the complaining for five minutes.

Oh, not the puppy eyes. She'd have to fight this for a full two weeks. Tifa crouched down to attach a leash to Rex, not meeting his eyes.

"You know you can't," she said firmly. "No going out."

"But... dog walking is kind of a chore, so it'd still be punishment and it would be exercise and not freedom or being not grounded at all..."

He rested his hand on Tifa's arm, trying to get her to look at him.

Rex was starting to become impatient, tail wagging as he strained at his leash, wanting to be off. But Tifa paused, looking at Denzel. She didn't buy that at all.

"No exceptions," she said. "Why don't you go and play with Marlene, hmm? You don't have to sit in your room alone."

Tifa was lenient enough to give the children the run of the house. They just weren't allowed to go outside.

Another pout. Denzel loved taking Rex for a walk. He'd keep him on the leash until the docks and then let him off and run until he got tired. It was always so much fun.

He gave a sigh and nodded, resigned to his fate. "Fine. I'll go find her."

Tifa smiled. "I'll see you soon!"

And she was off, Rex barking happily at the prospect of a walk. Tifa didn't have to worry about the children sneaking off while she was gone. She knew Cloud would make sure that didn't happen.
