Characters: Cloud, Tifa, Marlene, Denzel, Shelke Progress: Ongoing Summary: The family move into their new house in Lindblum. Location: Lindblum, Industrial District Date: February, 1804 Warnings: Cuteness. And possibly angst.
Denzel had lived in a lot of houses in his short life. His home above the plate in Sector 7, the house his parents were supposed to move into with him in Sector 5 - though he hadn't lived there. Ruvie's house with it's floral wallpaper and small back garden with good soil, the slums - even that wasn't really a house, more taking shelter where it could be found and of course the bar in Edge - that had been his favourite so far.
This house was really nice too. It was pretty and he could just picture how great it would look once they were settled in and made it homely. But, he couldn't settle in until he had explored every single room. Running in and out of rooms, with a laugh. "This place is the best!"
Marlene was super excited too. New things always did excite her, but it was the fact that they had their own place now, and that they could be a family again and start anew here until they could find a way back to their world. It wasn't too bad to settle in for now, right? They had friends here, and while it wasn't exactly home, they had to make the best of it.
Marlene had explored a few rooms, and she came back with a smile on her face. "This place is great!"
"...I'm guessing it's great," Cloud murmured with a small laugh, sitting beside Tifa and resting his arm around her shoulders. "It's nice to see them so happy..." He just wished Shelke was here to enjoy it with them. He knew she wanted to travel with Nanaki and Aerith but he was still unsure about everything the flower girl had said and how well Nanaki could keep an eye on the world-naive ex-Tsviet with his health in such poor condition. He was worried Shelke might get hurt, even if she was an adult inside. She was still a child on the outside and there were bad people in every world.
Using Tifa's hand around her cup of tea, he lifted it to his own mouth and sipped it. "You want me to make dinner?" Now that would be a sight. Cloud couldn't cook anything that wasn't made over a campfire.
Tifa gave Cloud a get-your-own-tea look when he had the cheek to drink from her cup, but she didn't mind really.
"It is pretty great," she agreed. "And you making dinner? Even better." She looked over at Marlene and Denzel. "Would you two like to help Cloud make dinner? I'm sure he'd burn it if he tried to do it alone..."
And she'd have to supervise, obviously. But she might take a break and enjoy her tea first, just to see how they got on by themselves for a while.
Denzel bounded over, flopping down onto the sofa arm, sitting beside Cloud, grinning brightly at the parent pair. "Me and Cloud can do the cooking while you girls relax, right Cloud?"
The boy could actually cook plenty of basic dishes. His mother had taught him a few and Ruvie had taught him some more. And he knew how to survive on scraps. Cooking a meal for four should be easy enough.
While Shelke still intended to leave with Nanaki in a day or two, this was still her 'family', and so she was tagging along to look at the new house. But in typical Shelke fashion, she had spent several minutes outside considering the various ways to defend and attack said building. Because some habits were hard to break.
But now she was walking inside, hands folded behind her back, looking around quietly.
Marlene moved over to sit down next to Tifa. When Denzel said that he and Cloud could cook dinner, she was all for this. So much optimism. "Let's let the boys do it this time! They can cook dinner. I know they can."
And Shelke was there too! Their home was even better now. "Shelke! Isn't the house nice?"
When Shelke came in, Tifa smiled at her. "I know you won't be using it for long, but we've made up a room for you. This is your house too."
Tifa still felt awkward around Shelke, more so since Red had snapped at her. But she wanted to make the girl feel as welcome as possible. She was doing this for the children, after all, not for herself.
Cloud sighed at Denzel. Sure, the kid knew how to cook basic things, but this was their first meal in their new house and he was supposed to play the responsible adult.
Ruffling the boy's hair as he playfully nudged him into the kitchen, Cloud began picking through the food they had. "What're we making then, Chef Denzel?"
Shelke doesn't quite seem to know what to say to Tifa indicating this is her home as well, and for a few moments her glowing eyes just stare at the woman before she nods her head once. "Thank you."
And then she lets her attention turn to Marlene, and there's the faintest hint of a smile on her face. "Yes, it is a very nice home." She wasn't sure whether she wished to remain here, or go explore the rest of the building, so for the moment she just...fidgets a bit.
Cloud looked blankly at Denzel, not even sure what the hell 'trick sparrow soup' was. He was an army boy, sure, but he was a country boy first and foremost, and he'd never heard of that. It sounded a little bit disgusting because, well... who would want to eat soup made out of a sparrow?
Shaking his head slightly, Cloud ruffled Denzel's hair, instinctively running a gloved thumb over the place that had been wounded on his forehead. "Maybe we should do something simpler."
Normally when people touched Denzel's forehead he shied away from them, everyone that is except Cloud. Cloud was the only one who truly understood what it had felt like. Cloud had probably had it worse than Denzel too. He instinctively laid his hand on Cloud's arm in return.
He often wondered if they would've been as close without the Geostigma. And he'd realised quite some time ago that they would be strangers. Cloud wouldn't have taken him home and he'd probably be living in the gutter still.
"Hm. We could do vegetable soup... or something rilled with a salad?"
Shelke nodded in agreement to Tifa's suggestion, turning to move after Marlene, following her out of the room and up to where the bedrooms were. She didn't seem to be in a rush, though she was actually eager to see her room. She was simply...looking at everything. The bar had been home, but it was not here, and Deepground had been home but it was gone...
Having a home was not something she had time to...adjust to, exactly. And she'd be leaving again shortly. "Do you like the new house?" She asked Marlene as she caught up to the shorter girl.

Marlene jumped up out of her seat, running to the end of the room. "C'mon, Shelke! Let's go! I can show you where your room is!"
