Song of the Day: Such Great Heights

Apr 15, 2008 04:13

Back 2-3 years ago, this song seemed to be everywhere, first being heard on commercials for "Grey's Anatomy" (and the soundtrack CD), covered by Iron & Wine on the "Garden State" soundtrack, with that cover being used in M&M's commercials, then, with a bit of irony, the original by a band named The Postal Service was used in an ad for UPS.

Here's the original:

I posted the lyrics: http://timbond.livejournal.com/24088.html

I've heard a few people say that they prefer the slower cover, some suggesting the melancholy nature of the lyrics seems wrong with the almost perky beat of the original. Of course, since I love New Order, who I consider to be the kings of peppy music with downer lyrics, I love a good mix of dancey music with less-than-dancey sentiments being sung. I think that's the point of the original version here.
