In Thran there are people on their rooftops shouting 'god is great' in protest of what appears with more and more concrete certainty to be a rigged election. People are leaving their doors unlocked to protesters can flee inside to escape the riot cops. The people are protecting the media that is recording the protests. People are dying.

the rumor is that mousavi is under arrest.
he isn't really on the side of the angels either. when he was pm in the 80s he massmurdered political prisoners.
these are two bad dudes kickin it out with iran as the prize.
but anneapplebaum pointed out that thisis actually a victory for democracy. to quote her quoting,
iran's elections might not have been free or fair but the did, as an iranian friend of mine put it, expose a "serious factional divide that could not be dealt with behind closed doors of te ruling oligarchy."

I've heard the same rumor, that he was under house arrest, but I just saw pictures of him at the protests today. Maybe he got rearrested?

I know there's no proof yet it was rigged, and that neither guy is a good guy. I agree with your friend, I've seen numerous comments to the effect of it being a good thing when it comes down to it.
