Erin and I have been, as you may know, shopping for a house.
We have seen 3 houses we wanted to make offers on. The first two went under contract the day we looked at them. The third had sketchy provisions in their sales agreement (like saying we couldn't have a termite inspection, WTF? No thank you), so we passed on that one on Friday. We have found another that we're willing to make an offer on. We're waiting to hear from our agent, who is supposed to be contacting the seller agent today.
It's exhausting. I'm really excited about the potential and the prospects inherent in this venture, but the process is draining, especially when added to an already nearly overwhelming life.
The most expensive thing I've ever bought was a used car for about $3,000. This is a lot more than that. I don't really have the ability to comprehend the money involved. Really, I'm looking at the down payment and closing costs which have to come from a family gift and seller help, and then the monthly mortgage cost and taxes. Those are numbers that are more 'real' to me.
Camping was very pleasant. Saturday turned out to be very nice, and Erin and I worked together to start a fire using a fire drill. We failed, and used a match, but it was a lot of fun trying anyway. She carved the drill, I made the bow, and we failed to make fire as a TEAM!
In other news, coming back to Muay Thai class wasn't as bad as I'd feared after being away for a month. I was exhausted at the end, but the basic boxing combination we drilled wasn't anything I hadn't done before. My hook isn't intuitive, and my head/body movement needs a lot of fine tuning. My combination flow is good and my accuracy is good. I need more endurance conditioning. My jiu jitsu is improving, but I need more mat time (which I'm not going to get, so oh well).
Erin's been reading up on places to visit in Europe. I'm trying to finish this "Living Like Ed" book so I can join her. It's slow going. I am excited that at the new house we might be able to recycle to a greater degree than we can at the apt. Composting is also an exciting idea.
House. Erin. Camping. Martial Arts. Europe. Environmentalism. House. Job*. Sex*. This is pretty much the loop my brain lives on.
*No, I didn't include information about these in this post. It's ether a secret, or people don't want to know about this, or both.
