Nonspoilery thoughts about Thor

Ah, there. Finally.

Well I was bored through the first half, grinned and felt like punching the air through the second half, the Kirby-esque costumes and environments looked splendid (hah, I remember when the first set photos of Anthony Hopkin's costume surfaced and everybody was going "The effects in this movie are gonna look like shit!"), the dialogue was frequently terrible (but who watches a Marvel movie for the dialogue?), Stellan Skarsgård was charming and relatable in his role (but oh boy did I feel like smacking the other two), Fandral's moustache should win a prize, and oddly enough I managed to set aside my Norse Mythology geekery aside for a little while and enjoy this unholy union of mythology and scifi (in fact I was very pleased that I could foresee Loki's revelations about his background almost immediately, because in some ancient sources Loki's got a name that pretty much spells out that entire plot twist - though there'd been a genderswap for the movie but then again it's Loki so I guess gender confusion is bound to occur in any iteration).

I was really shocked when I realized that the awesome concept art we'd been presented with ages ago turned to be truthful.

Oh hell yeah.

My biggest disappointment (apart from the dialogue, and the romantic subplot oh God that was dull) was definitely how the Frost Giants all looked exactly alike and furthermore looked like they'd come stumbling out of an episode of Charmed. Really, you can't do something more visually interesting with these awesome manbeasts from mythology in your eyecandy movie?

Also I totally want Tom Hiddleston's Loki to appear in every single Marvel movie from now on. I know I'm contractually obligated to adore any and every incarnation of Loki, but he was perfect. I dream of him playing Loki in a straight up Norse Mythology movie now.

Oh God they better hurry up with that Avenger movie because I need more Hiddleston-Loki noooow.

graphic novels/comics/whatever, squeeage, rambling: movies, geekery
