02 - Balloon
"Look," Jay says, propping himself up on his elbows, "a balloon." Charles follows his pointing finger and nods, a hint of a smile ghosting his lips. Jay lies back; the red blob floats away until it is a speck, and then it is nothing. Green grass tickles his bare back (he's shirtless; Charles, unfortunately, is not). The air is warm and heavy with the smell of summer - it smells like the sight of tumbling lambs and night-time barbecues, if that even makes sense. It doesn't, not really. It's okay though, in this heat, because isn't summer about not caring?
