Oh dear.

....The next time that anybody hears of me going to Austin, or more specifically, Book People, please remind me that I don't need to buy the whole store, and I have about 100 books already at home that haven't been read.

On the other hand, I got a book that is either a graphic novel version of or illustrations from Stardust, and Baku by Hakase Mizuki. However, I'm still having trouble finding copies of the Demon Ororon (by the same mangaka), which makes me sad, considering I sold them to emka and they're probably in Montana and I loved that series so much. I cried so hard at the end.

Anyway, Baku is amazingly pretty. Or at least I found it so, since I didn't have to get acclimated to Hakase's art style again, which can take a while if you're not used to it. But oh, the pretty. She went through the trouble to make them really really pretty this time - instead of all scruffy because they were getting their guts ripped out of them and such; Demon Ororon was just a teensy bit dark - so the car ride back home while I still had light and wasn't driving was nice. And the short stories having happy endings made me feel a little better.

I would also like to take this time to declare my undying hatred for Austin traffic. The stop lights on highway 71 when there was almost no cross-traffic backed up traffic on the main thoroughfare for at least 3 miles - and it's like this every time I go through. Austin's a lovely city, but I don't want to live there, because then I would have to deal with the UT campus and the freeway jams of truly epic proportions.

But anyway, I picked up so many books I don't need. Random fantasy I'll never read, some book on conquered Roman people done by British comedians (well, okay, that one might be good), something on the history of old nursery rhymes (when will I ever need this information?), and something else that I don't remember. Although getting that copy of the second book of Stephenson's Baroque cycle for $8 hardcover was a pretty good bargain.

I need to stop trying to justify these purposes. They were truly useless, and I'll have to start alphabetizing all over again. >_> Help me convince myself of this.

Hey, quick question for anybody who reads my LJ who doesn't live in Texas (y'all exist, right?): what's the generic brand of ice cream that you get? Can you get Blue Bell outside of Texas? Dad and I were wondering over cobbler at lunch.

traffic, manga, books
