I hear you about R&H, though I also think they sometimes get a bad rep. I'm really not that familiar with their stuff, actually. Some more than others, but for example I've never seen The King and I (at least not the whole thing). I'm a Sondheim fan through and through.

You consider musicals in general as high schoolish? Clearly, you like Lloyd Webber, right? What are some of the recent ones you think sound like LW? How did you get into opera, and why do you like it better?
I haven't seen Oklahoma! in years; I need to watch it again. Why do you find the ballet bizarre? That's one of the things that make OK as historically significant as it is.
I definitely felt too old for Spring Awakening when I saw that. But I'm glad they're reaching a younger audience.
