Wow. I just want to curl up in a little ball.
I was away for the weekend at a dance thing, which was fun (though slightly disappointing and disillusioning), but I'm totally exhausted and feel like I've been gone for two weeks. So adjusting to home and work was already going to be hard. Then I had a very "I hate my job" day today, for various reasons I won't go into.
I'm very excited about Johnny Depp being nominated for Sweeney (YAY!!!! He totally deserves it!), but I'm majorly bummed that the movie didn't get more nominations. Art Direction and Costume Design were the only other two, and also well deserved, but I was hoping for more (like something for Tim Burton, who's continually shafted). I'm obviously extremely biased... I've only seen two of the 5 best picture films, Juno and Atonement, and I didn't think they were that amazing. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad Juno is up for best picture, but I think I had heard too much hype about it before I saw it (and I'd even seen a sneak preview a few days before it opened). Same with Atonement, which I only saw last week. That was very well done, but it was such a major fricking downer!! Wow.
It's weird. Like I said, I'm very biased, but I have absolutely no interest in No Country for Old Men. Cohen Brothers scare me and It's much too violent for me -- and yet, I'm totally pushing for Sweeney Todd. ... But I've explained before why that one doesn't bother me as much violence-wise... (if you don't know and you'd like to, just ask).
Then of course there's the news about Heath Ledger. I'm so depressed about that, and totally shocked. I'm not sure why, but I'm really upset about it. My co-workers and husband can't quite understand. My boss pointed out that Brad whatshisname died too, but I've no idea who he is (except that he died). Heath was so young, talented, and good looking, and seemed to have so much going for him. There was so much buzz about his part in the upcoming Batman movie (did they finish filming?). Holy crap, I'm just really wigging out about it. I'm glad I didn't cry at work, but it was close. Wow...
Boy, I swear Ipod shuffle can read minds... it's just picking mood appropriate things, like Afro-Celt's "Go On Through," followed by Sondheim's "It wasn't meant to happen" ... then "Road to Dead"... eep. That's kinda eerie. And now "Without You" from Rent came on. I'm really gonna lose it now!
And I really wish they'd resolve this damn writer's strike! NOW!
I'm gonna go watch Friends reruns at 10. Maybe that'll help...
