MCR: Kansas City, 4/15/08

I am not sure it's actually possible for me to give a proper concert recap from last night because once My Chem came on, my brain pretty much went to a "!!!!" place for about an hour and a half.

The short version: So, so, SO much fun. I am so happy I got to see them at least once before the upcoming hiatus. Also, fangirls ftw!

So, I left for KC early yesterday afternoon, and this time, even though I did get lost--not my fault! google maps gave me very confusing directions!--it wasn't a 45 minute+ detour like last time. It was only for about 10 minutes, and then I found my hotel and life was good.

I met up with babygotbass, _lolapalooza, and divafits and her husband at the hotel. They also overheard hotel people telling other concert goers that the band was staying there, so it is indeed possible that I was sleeping in the same building as they were, even if I didn't manage to run into them in the lobby. We ended up walking to the venue, where we met up with foxxcub and daisydust in line.

Once we actually got into the venue, even though most of us had floor tickets, we ended up staking out a row in the lower seats, off to Frank's side of the stage. We stayed there for the openers, neither of whom I was really feeling at all. I wanted to like Billy Talent for the six degrees of Canada connection, but yeah. Way too heavy for my tastes.

At one point, foxxcub and I went to check out the Merch booth, and had something approximating following conversation:

foxxcub: I'd like a large 'Mikey Fuckin Way', please.
Merch Guy: Okay.
Me: Make that two.
Merch Guy: Two large 'Mikey Fuckin Way's it is.

Conversations I never thought I'd have in my life. Which is to say, I now have my very own Mikey Fuckin Way t-shirt! I couldn't leave it there, I really couldn't.

Also: Alicia was there! And we seemed to be the only people who recognized her/thought it was incredibly fun that she was there. Gerard did end up dedicating a song to her family, though, so I'm sure other people probably figured it out.

About ten minutes before My Chem came on, babygotbass, _lolapalooza and I decided to attempt the floor--just for a little bit! just until it got scary and moshy! Except somehow we ended up about 10 or so rows back, and didn't leave until the concert was over.

I went in to the concert fully expecting to be focused on Frank (because Frank!) but Gerard Way--I couldn't take my eyes off of him! Seriously. Like, I'd try to focus on Frank, and then Gerard would do something, and I'd be back to watching him for ten minutes. He has an amazing control of the crowd. I mean, he did jazz hands in the first five minutes! and then had us raising the roof! and when he said jump, the entire room started to jump.

I have no recollection of a set list, except that they played all of the B-Sides, and played all of my favorite songs, so I left completely happy and wishing I could do it all over again. I was particularly impressed by their performances of 'Mama' and 'Helena'--neither of which are my favorites, but were totally amazing live. 'Black Parade' and 'Sharpest Lives' and 'Famous Last Words' were just as impressive as I'd hoped they'd be. And they played 'Give 'em Hell, Kid'! As I said, all of my favorites.

And that was pretty much the concert. Awesome music, awesome people to hang out with. Just so, so much fun.
