So bittersweet and resigned, yet loving. Dean's lack of regret is the key, I think. He's almost joyous, is that the word for it? He's saving his Sammy...but the last line hurts.

I like a short fic that's got a punch.

Ooooooooh, ow. You know, though, I really can't see it ending any other way than this. Dean's whole character arc has pretty much been leading up to him dying for Sam, sucky as that is. I know there'll be a way out (obviously not gonna kill of one of their leads) but him dying is the only thing that feels right. Thanks for posting!
