United States recognizes the Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk

U.S. suddenly and without fanfare recognized the “rebel territories” of ex-Ukraine as independent states, namely Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics. The official document, confirming the recognition, is available on the official website of the U.S. government’s Department of the Treasury.
