Look ma, I really -do- have a blog!

Whoops! 2 weeks since I last updated!

Wednesday (16th) was a gig by Electric Six. They have a new album out (bought on the night) and were supported by a local group called Roxys Wardrobe, an aural assault which were quite fun...but you know how most bands have one, maybe two if they are luncky, really good musicians and the others are along and a bit better than mediocre? Their good one was the drummer. The singer liked his screaming.

After that came a group from Leeds who'd toured with E6 for the last two weeks, and they were called Eureka Machines. These guys were very good and super-polished. They also had an album out (also bought). I thought they were truly excellent, and they were funny as well. I recommend looking for them on youtube. I think they have a Myspace as well, but I haven't been there in years. Ooo, they do have a website, though! Just wish I could remember the address...oh well. Go Google them.

Then out came E6, as crazy as ever. Last time they were here, Dick Valentine (the singer) wasn't feeling so good, but he was on fighting form that night! Had some tracks from the new album, and then they started playing from the other four albums. The classics like "Gaybar", "Dance Commander" and "Danger! High Voltage" got the floor rocking, and one fella got thrown out for crowd surfing (why do they do it? They know they'll get grabbed by the bouncers and bundled out the building and then they miss the rest of the gig).

All in all, it was a good gig.

Unfortunatly, the evening was somewhat spoiled by our discovery just before we went out that the washing machine had been leaking. For the last three years. And the kitchen flooring has gone all wrinkly, but we're trying to flatten it out by walking on it. The main reason we didn't discover this earlier is because the crates of candlesticks for the vampire game had been put there, and we hadn't seen the laminate blowing slightly. Hubby had his in-house works meal/party on the Thursday afternoon, which he really wasn't interested in going to, so I picked him up and we popped to B&Q and bought a new hose for the leaky tap and changed them over and it doesn't leak any more :-). As he was home for an unexpected (and un-painting-scheduled) half day, I then got him to *finally* re-attach the curtain rail on the landing that I'd pulled down by accident. This was further testament to the ineptness of the people that lived here before us - they'd used wood screws and rawlplugs for masonary,a nd were far too short for the load placed upon them. So Hubby made the holes deeper, stuffed in the plugs, put in the screws and in the space of 10 minutes we had a working curtain rail :-).

Over the weekend, we then had the Outlaws down for the present swap, so I spent two days tidying the house and ensuring they had somewhere to sit down. They turned up early afternoon on the Saturday, which was a good thing because I needed the morning to get all the stacks of crated armies and crap out of the little bedroom (the guest room) and put them into the painting room so that they actually had a place they could sleep. I didn't get the futon made up before they arrived, but that didn't matter because I knew I could do that wheile they were having a cup of tea. Spent a lot of the afternoon just hanging around and chatting which was nice. Swapped the piles of presents, and I opened the most important one right then and there - a new kettle! I know that doesn't exactly sound exciting, but ours was, at that point, in the bin because it'd been leaking for ages and suddenly got worse. New kettle is black and shiny and boils super-quick :-)

Hmm. I suppose that's it, really. I could mention about the snow, but everyone knows about that. Except that outside our house the road is more like an icerink because it hasn't been salted. I'm grateful that I didn't have to go anywhere yesterday, but I really do have to venture out today owing to the lack of food in the house. Not looking forward to that, but I'll go this afternoon once the freezing fog has lifted.

Now, I suppose I'd better go turn the heating on, and the fishwater needs changing and the filter needs cleaning before we go to Suffolk to see my parents for Christmas tomorrow. I am looking forward to it, but we're only going for four days, in case the house or the fishtank freeze while we're away! I hope the roads over there aren't bad...they've been under snow for the past week. Oh, and I've still got the supporting statement for a job application to do before tomorrow as well...

And, of course, the painting!
