I'm very interested in this phenomenon myself, so I'd quite like to read the resulting paper :)

Do you keep your LiveJournal in English? If so, why?

Yes. My LJ has always had an international audience - I spent a lot of time in English-language chat rooms and had friends all over the world. Now that I think about it, I didn't even have any Icelandic readers at first.

Among your circle of Icelandic LJ friends, is there a trend towards using one language or the other?

There's definitely a trend towards using English, though several of my friends have separate Icelandic-language journals - their "official" journals, usually, intended for their families rather than their friends.

When engaged in online dialogue with Icelandic friends (LJ comments, IM, ...) what language do you usually use? How much "air time" would you say is devoted to the two languages proportionally?

On LJ: English, overwhelmingly. IMs: I'd say it's about 70/30 Icelandic/English.

What circumstances influence your choice of language for the discourse (or parts ( ... )
