Looking back on the 2014 goals....not many checks in the success column this year. Still, I did have two big life changes - I was promoted at work and I moved in with ES. Successfully navigating those changes took more energy than I thought. Even though I didn't register many wins on the below list, I still feel pretty happy with how 2014 started and ended.
1. Starting biking to work a minimum of one day a week, with the goal of beginning this in March.
And life said, HA. Despite the desire, I could not move this into fruition in 2014. Part of the issue is a perceived lack of safe route to work, part of the issue is time/scheduling - since I frequently run in the morning, then shower, I don't either have the perceived time or desire to get sweaty again riding my bike to work. Big fail.
2. Start eating more local veggies.
This happened, thanks to
Nature's Garden Express. One tiny box every other week seems to fit well in ES and I's lives with minimal wastage. Continuing this into the new year for sure.
3. Volunteer for at least one race per quarter.
Eiyiyiyiyi. With the exception of one race where every team had to supply a volunteer, this didn't happen. I need to step up giving back to the running community in a big way.....
4. Continue the efforts in the card-sending and weight-lifting from 2013.
Again - ick. I succeed with people in my closest sphere regarding the cards, and even not then - I bought my mother and
cynic51 birthday cards this year and promptly did not pack them when we got together over Thanksgiving. Weight-lifting also didn't happen.
5. Run at least one PR, any distance.
Also didn't happen this year. I didn't run many smaller races, and my one marathon try was not a good race day for me. Still, ES ran his first Peachtree Road Race this year, and has agreed to do it again in 2015, and that's a win that I can take!
6. Begin the Atlanta Tour of BBQ. Atlanta has a lot of BBQ joints, and I think a study of them is in order. One different BBQ joint a month, no repeats in 2014. I think that can and should happen.
On track through August, mainly. With a detour into Nashville Hot Chicken. Not quite a win, but
new places were tried, if not written about, and that was the spirit of the goal.
Next up: 2015 goals......
