you could just as easily replace 'children' with 'adults'
A. Antagonism, Threats, Oppression
Rule of Law, Police, Jail, War, Induced Fear (Terrorism, Murder by Blacks, Strangers Stealing Your Kids, Potential Social Outcasting)
B. Bribery
Economics
C. Reason
You don't want to be an artist, now do you? What good do they ever do? Now, an Engineer works with the REAL world, with the physical elements, and changes it for the good of mankind. They have REAL skills and get measurable results: something you can count on, none of this wishy-washy stuff.
[Reason infused with A and B, which is often the case in persuasion. I take "Reason" to mean persuasion, since in this case the topic is not a neutral discussion, and is rather moving towards some desired outcome. Since no one can truly predict any action's long-term effects on the universe or on the person who enacts it, any 'reasons' for suggesting that someone else "SHOULD" do something are inherently based on opinion and the lack of a belief in the potential of more appropriate options.]
However, reason could mean relying on the other (the child or the adult) to make informed choices of their own. In this case, my belief is that I can only offer examples of how investing in one angle of the topic in question has directly or indirectly enriched my life. What is done with that offering is up to the reasoning of the other. In this case, it wouldn't really be forceful or violent or 'wrestling into obedience.'
