Xmas 2010 seems to have gone by quite quietly with almost no
arguments or problems. My mum had a small moment when she decided
at the last moment to make a cake and I gave up the ghost and
vacated the kitchen. The same happened when she decided she was
going to cook the birds. Now I like cooking and find it quite
relaxing. I have also cooked roast duck before, not that this made
much of an impact to the final rersult. My mum flapped around in
the kitchen worrying that the ducks wern't going to cook ot that
they would be dry or that they would be burnt. Every 15 min she
would ask my opinion on something and then snap at me when what I
said wasnt what was written in the recipie book. I vacated the
kitchen and decamped in the livingroom in front of the telly.
Despite these small problems everything got done in time and at
11.30 my uncle arrived to take us over to my g'mothers. We turned
up and once again I left my mother and g'mother in the kitchen
flapping over nothing and my uncle and I hid in the diningroom and
ate our prawn cocktails. My aunt throughout the whole of xmas ans
boxing day did nothiing. She didn't help cook any of the food, or
help her 80 year old mother put up any decorations or peel and
prep the veg or lay the table or even run a duster over the
dresser in the front room. She lay on the sofa and didn't speak to
anyone, came into the diningroom, stuffed down her meal in under
15 min, then left the table whilst the rest of us were still
eating and went back to lying down in the other room on her own.
She dixd the same on boxing day as well and by the end of it I was
feeling quite annoyed with her and glad she was staying in the
other room as I felt quite like pointing out to her how lazy and
selfish she had been this year. Despite this the rest of us had a
nice time playing silly games and eating and laughing and the bits
of plastic tat that you get out of crackers :P
My gift list was quite good this year and I got most of what I
wanted mostly because I bought what I wanted and then gave it to
my mum to wrap and pretend she got it. I got the whole series of
black books, the whole set of blackadder, 4 pairs of earings, some
pomegranit bath stuff, cherry liquers, a chocolate orange, A terry
Pratchett book and some sugar mice :)
My mum seemed happy with the gifts I got her as well. I have been
squirriling them away for ages. I got her, 2 shawn the sheep dvds
as she loves them and a cd of an agatha christie talking book and
a selection of dads army radio plays on disc as well. I got her a
giant toblrone and the gift box set of the perfume she liked and
my fixed old laptop so she can finally get on the internet. She'll
be using it for a lot less than me so the fact that it is a bit
older shouldn't make much difference at all.
