Another Yay (?)
I found out about another black film being made from a book called PUSH. Unlike Secret Life of Bees or Cadillac Records, I do want to see this film BUT it's not all that different. Another familiar film, only it's supposedly more graphic and better done than anything we've seen before. Or so Sundance claims.
Anyway, I've read some blogs about this issue (SURPRISE) and now I feel a little ashamed for my opinion. Like, I only complain about these types of movies bcuz A) I am a privileged black woman & B) I am trying to validate my own experiences through what I see in pop culture, which is no place to do such a thing. No matter what images the media want to give of black ppl, I am not that. LOL. And I don't hafta see myself on TV to enjoy it or believe it. Or whatever. I don't know - i'm a little confused but generally I guess I shouldn't stress it. One day, it will happen. It may not be as profound, disturbing or entertaining as PUSH, but it will be. Patience, little polliwog.
