crazy4orcas asked "You're in charge of writing the Pacific Rim Sequel -- what's the story?"
*eyes you* Don't think I can't spot what you're doing!
Again.
Okay. This isn't as long or as detailed as the MCU movies - not even close. It's more of a general idea than anything concrete.
But it would once again be all about the female character.
Pacific Rim II
Mako isn't coping with the new world she and Raleigh created when they closed the Breach - it's a struggle to work out what she wants to do with herself, where she belongs: apart from with Raleigh, and even she's questioning that since they'd only known each other a week at the end of the first movie, and Drift compatible during a war is one thing, but during peace time?
Raleigh is struggling to cope with being famous again. He had everything with Yancy, lost it all when Yancy died, and faded into obscurity. Then Pentecost calls him back and in the space of a week he's a hero again. So he's clinging to Mako, and they're discovering just how hard it is to negotiate what and who they are and will be to each other in the midst of the media limelight.
To add to this, she and Raleigh, Newt, and Hermann are having nightmares about the Breach re-opening - Newt in particular is becoming 'odd' (well, odder) and Hermann is struggling with having Drifted with Newt, a baby kaiju, and being a parent with his wife, Vanessa, who's also one of the people working with Mako and Raleigh in the media.
...and I'm not entirely sure where it goes.
There's a part of me that wants Newt and Hermann to become the new threat, and eventually the only solution is for Newt to sacrifice himself. But I'm not entirely sure about that.
Also, there's cloning. Of kaiju. Because you know some idiot scientist would try, just because they could. (“Own your own baby kaiju!”) Which is what's prompting the dreams for Mako and Raleigh, and Newt and Hermann.
Themes of peacetime vs war, and Mako/Raleigh trying to develop a 'real' relationship, and not just one of forced intimacy from the Drift. They like each other and want to know each other better, but they really know each other too well, if you get what I mean?
I think Mako is the one who, in the end, says BURN IT WITH FIRE! The guys have less boundaries with the kaiju thanks to Newt and Hermann Drifting with one, and Raleigh being in the Alteverse and being subtly altered by it, but Mako is still Mako and she remembers Tokyo and Onibaba, and losing her friends and families to the kaiju again and again and again.
So, general themes rather than detailed plot.
But I still see what you were trying to do there! :D
