I'm a touch curious, I have to admit: are 'faith-based' abstinence programs ones related to religious organisations? As compared to people who are abstinent for other reasons? (Practical, personal belief, asexual, etc.)
Ooh, good. Thanks for providing some non-English-US-UK options.
There was also a monthly magazine that could be find in the children's section of any library that had a question column. Kids often sent in questions about puberty, sex and masturbation, so I (and probably many with me) learned a lot from there.
This sounds awesome, actually. Somewhere that kids can go that's just going to answer their questions, without embarrassment or fear of being reported. I mean, I could ask my mother anything I wanted to know about sex and she'd answer as best she could but not everyone has that kind of a relationship with their mother.
It seems, from a few of the comments, that they don't really make the connection between genitals, and fertilisation of the egg, and sex. Ironically, that's the most difficult part of it all - the negotiation of sexuality, relationships, and interactions with other human beings.
If only they taught classes on interpersonal skills. Most kids these days need that far more than they need to be taught about tab A going into slot B.
I'm a fan of abstinence, I'm just not a fan of abstinence-only education!
Education on the basics is a sound idea for sure. I'd actually go further and try to instill some sense of relationship negotiation and interaction with other people.

Which I find a little on the questionable side, even as a Christian.
