moving on

After a month of disorder, the building-wide repairs are finally done and Mo is back so we're sort of back to normalcy.  We decided to take advantage of all the things that were moved around to finally tackle the list of upgrades that has been simmering for...ten years.  Z's room now looks like a tween's space rather than a preschooler's.  He chose a bean bag chair and a rug, and we moved a desk in.  We also moved our our old couches and a train table/toy chest from the living room.  I was impressed with Goodwill's pick-up service.  The website was efficient and we received regular updates.  It was certainly a lot easier than renting a U-Haul and arranging for Mo's friends to help out.  Next step is to dispose of the dilapidated piano which really just serves as a photo display.

My thoughts on working from home keep shifting.  Pre-COVID I wasn't a fan.  During and immediately after the pandemic I was OK with it.  Now I like returning to the office on days when no one else is there - when it's quiet but not distracting (like at home where there's always a pile of laundry or dishes) and I can print and do other office-y stuff.  And then when I get home I'm actually home since I left work behind.

I visited my alma mater's new digs yesterday.  It was very fancy!  With a rooftop cafe with views to the Capitol building and right next to the Canadian Embassy.  I was a little worried because the former Newseum was a striking venue with a huge atrium from which was suspended a news helicopter.  The atrium stayed thankfully.
