I'm doing it my way...

Good things have been happening on the business front. Personal life, not so much, but we'll just gloss right on over that and go to the good stuff.

First off, I finally registered my business about a week ago. I'm officially in business! It's called PaperCut NY but I will just call it papercut. I did that because the web site name is http://www.papercutny.com and it had a nice ring to it. I'll start redesigning my portfolio site to fit the new direction for the business later this week. I'm so excited, everything seems like it will be so much fun to start working on. The registration fee was $120 and I have the documents to prove it and everything. Whee!

I purchased my hosting through www.bluehost.com and now have 15 GB of storage and a ton of bandwidth along with tons of anonymous FTP users. This means I can set up a proper client FTP site now. Thank goodness. I can actually move my filing system away from email onto a proper server. Go space over there...now.

Second, I signed up for a Free Business Checking account through HSBC on Friday. I'm getting my COMPANY checks and debit card in mail in the next few weeks. Man, this feels so odd to be official. I have a company debit card to purchase equipment and services. Holy crap.

Third, everyone and his mother keeps calling me for work. Thank goodness, I was beginning to worry. I just finished up a 2.5 week stint freelancing at the ad agency from a while back and it was too much fun. They are the ones with the office cats named TV (girl) & Radio (boy). Good laughs all around. This Wednesday I'm signing a government contract to design and code a web site for a small business owner which would pay beau coup bucks but has a quick 2 month turnaround time. I also have 2 production projects coming up in September that will also hit the money spot quite nicely. (Take that how you will, including imagining me rubbing money on my crotch...fun.) In the meantime, those same people gave me a small quick project to complete by this Wednesday. I'll probably be working at the boring beauty factory freelance gig for part of late August/early September as well. A client from two months ago called me this morning to do some HTML/Flash emailers in the next two weeks which will definitely help assuage any financial worries for end of September/early October. And, to top it all off, a recruiter from Aquent randomly emailed me Friday and called me this morning about interviewing with them in Connecticut.

God, this feels good and definitely takes my mind off all the money & personal crap that's been happening lately. It feels good to be busy again.

Next steps in business development: a proper merged project filing & billing system, portfolio redesign, hard drive back up and clean up, and registering my business as a Women/Minority owned venture.

Wish me luck kids.

business, work, happiness
