Looks like the maturity level has taken a nosedive again.

Yes, I'm talking about the whole wankfest on Mecha Erotica.  I missed it because I was taking my daughter to a doctor appointment but I heard about it later.  Read the comments when they were reactivated.  Shook head and facepalmed a lot.  Saw some of the other comments people made in their own journals too ( Read more... )

Tia, I'm sending you a huge, huge virtual hug for dealing with the ridiculously vicious comments posted here.

I've always thought that age meant wisdom, and that wisdom meant less stupid, trivial semantics, more mature ways of dealing with problems, and a lack of stupid insults. I'm not so naive to assume all adults are mature and intelligent, because I've met my share of idiots and goof-balls, but I had hoped, at least, that a fair majority had the intelligence to resolve conflicts with maturity and grace. Some of the things said in the comments are grossly immature, and, according to the rules I was brought up by, insulting a person is not a way to properly solve a disagreement.

I am not even old enough to drive, and I am capable of seeing that some of the things said here are asinine and childish ways of dealing with a problem. Insulting someone in the hopes that they will break down is how pre-teen bullies act, not fully grown adults. I'm glad I don't have access to ME, because I'm sure that some of the things said there were even more ludicrous and inane.

Also, Tia, your compliment made me blush. While I don't post much, and I am very much aware that some of my older stories are not exactly works of genius and wit, I'm glad you think so highly of me.

Thanks! *sends a return hug*

Age should mean maturity and wisdom but it rarely does. Most people are able to deal in a mature, reasonable fashion. It's just the immature idiots that are loud and seek to draw our attention their way. They get louder and more obnoxious the more you disagree with them, because in the perfect world inside their heads, they could not possibly be wrong. I dare to disagree with these people knowing full well the consequences because I believe that if no one calls them on their bad behaviour, they will continue and get worse. They probably will still be the same way, but I can say I stood up for myself and my friends and family to the best of my ability. You were raised the right way. Insulting someone will just continue it and escalate it.

And they floundered and resorted to cheap shots when I wouldn't back down. Most of the stuff on M_E is good. Just a few bad apples that seem to think that they are exceptions to the rules because they want it to be.

Everybody says that about their older work. I know I do about mine. *hugs* You deserve it. You are an excellent writer that can handle mature themes beautifully and your spelling and grammar are top notch. You should be proud of yourself. I'm very happy to have met you. Say hello to your Dad and give him a hug from me.

To avoid redundancy, just throwing this out there: I agree whole-heartedly with Mommimus, Tirya, VermillionBird and all those who have posted similar opinions. Their comm, their rules.

What I find hypocritical is that people who are whining about having their opinions on TF-shmex and sticky not being respected...are not respecting the opinion of others. The whine and moan about how M_E doesn't respect stickfic and blah blah blah, but when someone posts an intelligent opinion, they go all up in arms and start pointing out that said opinion is stupid/ridiculous/whatever the heck the feel like saying. And they're wrong.

Sweet Primus, my ego is going to grow to so huge a size that none of my clothes will fit! You flatter me. I need to go back through a bunch of my stuff and fix a handful of typos and missing words, though, I am rather proud to say, that, for the most part, I'm careful about my spelling and grammar. You could have the greatest idea in the world, and yet have no readers because they can't understand what you're trying to say through all the mistakes.

*feels happy that she is in good company*

You are right. Problem is, they don't believe that. One of the people sent me a message saying they are angry people that think the world owes them. I couldn't say it better myself. But nothing we say will change their minds.

You deserve every bit of it. Okami will agree. I need to go through my old stuff and have it properly betad. I try to watch my spelling and grammar all the time but I still find stuff I missed. No one is perfect. I have to agree with you on that. There are some fics I couldn't even begin to read because of that.
