Dear Yuletide Writer 2015
Hello, and thank you for reading this letter! If you're reading this, I assume you're offering or otherwise interested in writing for some of the fandoms and characters I requested, which I'm grateful and excited for! A few general notes of my requests:
- My general likes include character studies, found families, friendly rivalry, and missing scene-type fics, among others. I'm also down for non-mundane and canon divergent AUs.
- I don't have many hard dislikes, although I'm not big on crossovers. I also would rather not see infidelity and jealousy treated positively (although I'm fine with jealousy portrayed as a clear flaw).
- These prompts are just guidelines in case you need some inspiration. If you have a completely different idea you're dying to write, feel free to knock yourself out and write that instead!
Gakkou Gurashi
Character(s): Any
What I love the most about Gakkou Gurashi is how it manages to blend the cute-girls-doing-cute-things formula with the bleak post-apocalyptic backdrop, how it can get both hopeful and melancholic at the same time. I'd love to see more of that same atmosphere, or even something darker but not gratuitously so. A few story ideas:
- More of the four members of the School Living Club in general. Some missing-scene fics set during their days at school, or following their journey after they decide to leave the school. Or something that focuses more on one or more of the girls back during the normal days, and showing just how the outbreak has changed them.
- Something focusing on Megu-nee would be great as well. Just how much was she told about the outbreak? Did she have any other survival plans beyond barricading themselves in the school? Why exactly was she in the basement in her undead state - did she wander there after or before she turned?
- Even something about Kei (and by extension her friendship with Miki) could be interesting. It could be Miki recollecting the times she spent with Kei before the disaster. Or her journey from when she left the mall, until what seems to be her unfortunate end as seen from the final episode, and whether her views of what it means to "live" changed along the way.
- If you want to write something shippy, I have a soft spot for Kurumi/Yuuri - it gets to me how Kurumi trusts Yuuri with her life if she ever gets infected, and yet when it did happen, Yuuri couldn't bring herself to do the deed. Maybe something where Kurumi confronts Yuuri further about it, and how she feels about her wishes not being followed through on one hand, yet it's what keeps her alive on the other?
(As a final note, I'm only familiar with the anime, so if you've read the manga, I'll prefer if the story only included details that have been covered in the anime.)
Hibike! Euphonium
Character(s): Tanaka Asuka
I find Asuka to be one of the most fascinating characters of the series. On the surface, she's the perfect, if slightly wacky senior, but then there's things like how she claims absolute disinterest in who plays the trumpet solo. It's not that she doesn't actually care about other people, but perhaps she's just a very practical person underneath all that, with a narrow focus on the results. Anyway, I would love pretty much anything that explores more about Asuka from any angle. Something about her earlier days in Kitauji, maybe even in her first year before the whole mess during her second year? Or something that follows her after graduation - does she still play music afterwards? You can also set it in the less distant future after the finale, with her take on their win, or you can even have a more ensemble-like fic which includes how the band prepares for the next stage of the competition. I neither OTP nor NOTP Asuka with anyone, so while romance is absolutely not compulsory, I won't say no if you want to include it either.
(I'm also only familiar with the anime of Euphonium, so if you're familiar with the novels, I'd prefer if you don't include anything past what the anime covers.)
Touken Ranbu
Character(s): Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Yamabushi Kunihiro
The Kunihiro brothers are some of my favourite characters from the game, and I'd love to see more of their interactions. There's Yamanbagiri's ever-present copy issues, for starters - he was perfectly cordial with Yamabushi in the recollection, but given how much he mopes about it otherwise, I can't imagine that he thinks nothing of the fact. Does he ever compare himself unfavourably to or envy Yamabushi because of it? You can even add Horikawa into the mix with his questionable authenticity. Or you can focus on Yamabushi's practice - he never really explained why he's so focused on it and getting stronger in the recollection, and I'm interested in any take of how he talks about it with his brother(s), whether serious or cracky. At any rate, any form of brotherly bonding with Yamanbagiri and Yamabushi (and Horikawa is more than welcome too if you wish) would be great, though if you take this route I'd prefer if it's pure gen with no romance between any of the brothers and other characters. I've also seen fanworks that variably place Horikawa as the eldest, middle, or youngest of the Kunihiro brothers, though my personal preference is him as the youngest, so if you include/mention him it'd be great if you followed that.
If you have no objections to it, I'm more than fine with a shippy take as well. Going back to copy issues, I quite like the idea of Yamanbagiri's inferiority issues for being a copy giving way to a beyond-platonic admiration of his orignal, non-copy brother, which Yamabushi has problems dealing with in more ways than one. Porn is definitely welcome, especially if there's some body worship thrown in. As far as do-not-wants, I'd rather if you don't have them end up with other people - it definitely doesn't have to be happy, and they don't have to end up together, just don't put them in a different pairing(s) at the end.
