I now can sympathize with every horror-survival video game protagonist and every freaked out victim in horror movie.
I park in the parking garage, with a thunderstorm in the background. There was lightning flashing overhead but no rain just yet. I walk down to the quiet and narrow tunnels that connect the parking complex with the hospital basement. I step through the door and take a few steps in, and I vaguely knew where I was going. Door, left turn, right turn, another door. I was just following the signs. Then everything goes dark. Pitch black dark. Yo can hear the thunder as the generators fade.
"Shit."
I pull out my cell phone. Doesn't do me any good. I slowly kept walking, in a calm but panicked state, and round the corner that I knew was there, hoping to see some light. Nothing. Twenty seconds later the power comes back on, and I was trying not to expect something waiting for me in the darkness. I quickly found my way to the next tunnel. "Almost there." I told myself. As I walked further along this last tunnel, I noticed it getting darker with every step. As I walked along in a now more hurried pace, a rolling blackout in the tunnel was right behind me. I made it to the hospital with a few steps before the blackout got to the door.
In conclusion, I'm never walking by myself down there.
