I'm going to try to finish up the Vid Review notes for tonight and maybe even (crazy ambitious!) the Dead Dog notes, although I may get distracted by vidding or writing or sleep, and then I'll just have the vidshows themselves to write up. Not sure whether to do a social write-up this year.
Anyway! Have some I-saw-this-just-before-or-on-the-way-to-VVC recs, excluding the vids I will talk about when writing up Nearly New:
- sdwolfpup, Like A Stone
So, all I know about Prison Break is f1renze's gorgeous Ragged Ass Road (sockkpuppett at 2006 Vid Review: "Y'all are watching the wrong show about brothers." I laughed, too. I wasn't watching Supernatural then, either). Or, that's all I used to know about the show. Now I know there's this FBI agent played by a guy vonnie_k is crazy about. A rough representation of my thoughts about the FBI guy during the progress of the vid:
"Well, Wentworth Miller is pretty as a boy can be, but I don't see why Vonnie's so nuts about this other guy. He's kind of funny-looking. He's kind of funny-looking, but he has very striking eyes. He has very striking eyes, and that intensity is compelling. He has very striking eyes, and that intensity is compelling and really kind of hot. He has very striking eyes, and that in--OMGWTFHOTHOTHOTWALLKNIFEHOTYES."
I made people watch this vid at the con. Or I made them watch it the first time and then they volunteered themselves to watch it the next two or three. Also, the very kind sdwolfpup showed me key elements of the canon, and by "key elements" I mean scenes where the FBI guy is really hot and obsesses over Wentworth Miller. She showed me the actual cell scene, which is even slashier with dialogue. I swear. For those of you who cannot harass SDW in person and witness the face-covering as she explains the plot about the extracted jaw and the president's incestuous affair, she has written up The Beginner's Guide to Michael/Mahone, because she is just that awesome.
Apparently, this fandom has a sad lack of prison sex. I do not understand this. You are failing me, Fandom! You should get right on that.
- ash48, Channel Hopping
Now I can't find a link to this. Which is too bad for me, because I want to watch more by this vidder, and too bad for you, because it is a brilliant and very funny deconstruction of TV conventions which sets Supernatural to a medley of different and very recognizable TV theme songs: The Odd Couple, Days of Our Lives, The Dukes of Hazzard, etc. It's very accessible to non-SPN viewers, because it's talking less about SPN than the ways in which fans take the base material of show and convert into the kind of narrative they desire.
- Lynn, One Million Miles Away (The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne)
geekturnedvamp told me I had to watch this even though I'd never heard of the show, and she was absolutely right. It looks gorgeous and exciting and thrilling. I am now in love with this show I've never seen.
Roll your own live-action/anime vidpairs show: Watch with WickedAmp's Million Miles (ROD).
- beccatoria, there's a war going on for your mind, laura
Apparently I am the only person at VVC who was introduced to the Flobots by this song rather than by "Handlebars." Anyway! Weird, political, polyvalent, scratchy, distorted, strange: perfect for BSG. I think. I quit watching BSG last season, but I was happy to go with the disorienting flow.
