In other words,
deadspeaker,
starchild42 and I met up for the first time in 2 years, between my not coming back and Sandy's Grecian holiday, tonight, to go watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
It being us, we spent most of the movie making highly inappropriate comments and laughing our heads off at both appropriate and inappropriate points.
Key: "dialogue in movie" and description of scene: ("audience...well, really mostly our...ok, mostly my...commentary")
- at the castle in the beginning with the dying people in cages and ravens: ("Mordor!")
- "He wants that key bad enough to visit her." ("Shelob?")
- when Bill and Will met and exchange Intense Gaze (TM): ("I am your father!" "Noooooo!!!")
- when Will's shirt gets ripped open: (*helpless laughter*)
Speaking of that, he moved really easily, especially considering the salt water swimming, swordfighting, climbing and general exercise he was doing, for someone who got five lashes across his back...the timeframe of the movie isn't much more than a week, is it? If it is more than a week, then Will's desperately-trying-to-grow beard is rather...slow...
- "...in Singapore" (several times, when Will was asking around for news of Jack) (entire Singaporean audience: "Wha-?! GAHAHAHAHA!")
- our introduction to the cannibals: ("Can they get any more cliche? ...Wait, is that supposed to be Singapore?!")
- net of gunpowder and rum goes BOOM, Kraken goes OW: ("Calamari!")
- random scenes of Kraken tentacles sliding up and around ships: ("Ooooh, pretty!")
- Will's first scene - brought in shackles to his wedding: ("It is evil and wrong that he looks that good in handcuffs,")
- "Why is the rum always gone?" ("Oh, that's lame..." but it gets a laugh all the same...)
- organ music plays, scene cuts to Davy Jones playing organ: ("Oh, you have got to be kidding me...GAHAHAHAAAA!!" "Tentacles playing the organ!")
Actually, didn't Captain Nemo in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea play the organ? Wait, was that his name? It's been a while...
- Jack returns to the Black Pearl in the nick of time and shoots above net of gunpowder/rum: ("Bullet time!")
- Jack gets cuffed to the mast of the Pearl by Elizabeth: ("Why are there always convenient shackles lying around?")
- after the nth scene of random undead pirate sailors: ("Did they save on makeup by reusing the stuff from the first movie?")
- everyone toasts Jack at Tia's (vodoun woman's) place. Elizabeth says: "Jack was a good man," scene moves to Will drinking to the toast: ("Who kissed your fiancee...")
- the waterwheel of swordfighting hilarity death, the cage of bones and the swinging and rolling thereof, the musical swords game Elizabeth and the two sailors were playing, the musical heart game Will, Jack and Norrington were playing, the threeway swordfight (especially the beginning, with Elizabeth yelling at them) on the beach, the fact that they all ended up on the beach fighting the natives, the scene of Jack running desperately with the entire troop of natives running after him ("Wait, don't they have long range weapons?" "Yes, but it wouldn't be as funny,"), oh, and let's not forget Jack Sparrow-style kebabs...ok, the entire sequence of scenes on the cannibal island was just frelling hilarious, ok?
- at the end of the movie: ("WTF?! I thought he died?!...What was his name again?" "Barbarella - Barbe - Barbossa!")
- during the credits, which we always stay through anyway (it was great music too!) *looking around at the large section of audience remaining* ("Do they know something we don't?")
- listening to the awesome music during the credits and discussing the movie - disclaimer "No animal was harmed in the making of this movie" rolls by:
"Wait, the parrot's fine, the monkey's fine...but the dog got eaten...well, it'll probably be better tasting than Jack..."
"But Johnny Depp is eatable! He said so himself!"
"...?!? *helpless laughter*"
"In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!"
*all die of laughter*
...and then the extra scene shows up and we are highly amused at our prescience. xD
- [Edit: I knew I forgot several, but one of them came back - though I guess this was more just me than usual:
random scenes of approaching underwater Kraken as well as scenes of its many sharp teeth: ("Sandworm!")]
And, of course, ("Tentacle porn!") Though that was more in the post-movie discussion. Along with ("Bad date with Kraken..."), ("...random bondage") and sundry other comments along those lines. Oh, and "Wait, since when does Davy Jones captain the Flying Dutchman and command the Kraken?!"
Wow, it broke box office records for first day take and opening weekend take? Impressive...but considering it's coasting on the success of the first movie, not really surprising, I guess.
All in all, we laughed so hard our stomachs hurt, listened to good music, got to ogle Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom (more the first two), and had a good time together in general. I'm not going to write a real review, since I already know most of the world's pretty disappointed in it, and I don't have much to add - it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as good as the first either. Sequelitis at work. But I have to complain that there were too many plotlines lying around loose tripping people up and plotholes people kept falling through. They were mostly ignorable though. Oh, and the amount of echoing of the first movie -!
Among others, a scene that stood out that I didn't have anything to comment about was the scene between Jack and Elizabeth on the deck of the ship trying to tempt each other with curiosity. Too much fun. :D
Besides,
deadspeaker will probably do one of her fun reviews, and she's much better at them.
Oh, look closer at the large movie posters, by the way. There's a little voodoo doll of Jack hanging from the logo. We noticed it after the movie, when we were already falling over with laughter and didn't need the extra impetus.
In any case. Yeah. It was a good enough trip. I'm tired now. Sleep. *nods* I need to get stuff done tomorrow, contact all kinds of people and start calling about jobs. *sighs* I wasn't overly comfortable tonight, I had to keep making a conscious effort to not be a bitch and/or make snarky comments, but hopefully that'll change for the better...*sigh* Anyway. Sleep.
