Ever considered making it on an actual website, with like... accounts and databases and stuff so people don't need to keep their own cardposts updated which is a pain anyway?

I didn't know how back when I ran tcg_exchange. BUT NOW I DO. :|a

I dunno, LJ is way easier to deal with, and besides, it's not like we're running a virtual pet site here. I don't know about Plum/Ari or the others, but I actually like the LJ format.

I'm only saying this because I actually ran a TCG myself - and I know that the LJ format is easier to set up, but it becomes a gigantic pain in the butt to manage as the game grows. Handing out prizes manually is extremely time-consuming, and the more members you get, the more prizes you need to handle per game. It gets tiresome to members after a while, too, since they have to manually update their posts and such ( ... )

Well, I have my own domain, so that isn't a problem, but I've been a part of the animetcg for over a year now and I've seen how they do things, so I'm willing to take the risk of hard work in order to manage it. Besides, I don't even know if a lot of people will join, so I don't really want to go through the trouble of setting it up when I don't even know what path it'll take.

And like I said before, it's a group thing, and the others like the LJ format a lot, so we're just kind of sticking with it without trying to make things complicated. They've had experiences with modding LJ TCGs too, so they're fine with it.

Oh yeah, I know. I've seen them around and I've been a part of some before. True, it would be easier and all, but I kind of do like the LJ style. Plus, this is a group thing and all the others voted to do it on LJ and since they aren't as experienced with websites and coding as much as I am, it's easier for them to handle it this way.

Thanks for the advice though. :D

I actually don't mean the kind of website TCG that's around these days in which members still maintain their own posts, and you have no control over whether or not they're cheating - I mean something with member accounts and member pages, where cards would be handed out automatically and added to their post without leaving any room for them to save a different card. It is a lot more complicated to code since it involves PHP, SQL, login recognition, and a bunch of other things I only just learned about. |Db But with proper scripting, updating it would be as easy as updating LJ - as I said, much harder to set up, ridiculously easier to manage, with or without coding experience ( ... )

I get what you mean. And it'd be an interesting idea, but I brought up the idea cause I wanted the fun of actually managing a TCG the good ol' fashion style. Maybe if I wanted to get more serious or ran more, I'd do it, but I just kind of want to try it for fun. :'D

Card Randomization script? o: Is it PHP and all of that? Cause I'm currently using random-image.net to set up my randomizer and it's doing just fine for now. Since it has a daily bandwidth limit though, I was wondering that maybe I'd have to change it in the future if the game got more popular. But if it's a PHP code, my sister knows how to do all of that and was gonna teach me how to set it up if worst comes to worst. If it's something else, I wouldn't mind hearing about it though. Thanks. :'D

I do hope it stays fun for you, then! I know it definitely did not for me. Or rather, it went from "this is fun!" to "OH MY GOD MAKE IT STOP GRARRRRARGH". It-it wasn't pretty.

Yeah, PHP. I had made it so you'd input how many cards you wanted, and whether or not you wanted certificates, and it'd spit out the code for you. As it grew I made different ones for templates for every kind of post, so the mods didn't need to write any code. If your sister knows PHP, I'd say to set it up as soon as you can - it is immensely helpful, trust me.

(...and it's also fun to play with it just to see what cards come out. I have no life, okay.)
