We have been traveling for two days now over the expanse of swamp terrain toward the foothills. It is, as we feared, a dense and vast reaching piece of unlovely terrain that stretches as far as the eye can see. The Indomitable would certainly founder here if she tried to make the journey.
However all is not a total loss, our initial observations have confirmed the presence of life forms within the horsetail forests. What appears to be a small family of monitor lizards have been noted sunning themselves amongst the ferns beside a small pool of water. No doubt our boffins will be eager to come here and examine these creatures for themselves but at this time we do not plan on making any landings for the purposes of specimen capture. Quite simply our current load aboard the airship precludes us taking on any more cargo of any kind as we are close to our total lifting capacity at present, perhaps once we have eaten our way through the consumables one or two small specimens might be added but that is a matter for the future as our immediate concern is reaching the edge of this swampland and assisting the landship.
Mr Pendleton has already requested that we halt and allow him some time to photograph the scenery for our records, though our current position offers no solid ground for us to lower the ladder and set foot on the surface. Until we can establish the presence of solid ground I will not allow any pedestrian expedition into the area. He is disappointed and has solaced himself by sketching the scene as best he is able.
There is so much to see out here as we float above this primordial vista but time and our ongoing mission needs now preclude us from investigating further, a state of affairs that I confess is a source of disappointment to myself as well.
