The weekend in review

So, this weekend kumorisubeta - otherwise known as Middle Sister - graduated from college. I am so proud of her that I could burst. Double major and a minor - way to go!!

However, this meant that a trip needed to be planned. Normally, I love trips, but this one seem determined to be the bane of my existence. The first problem was that because of bardicstorm's schedule, he didn't even know if he'd be able to go with me until Friday night. So, the original plan was that we would wake up early on Saturday and drive up to Wilkes for graduation, spend the night and come back on Sunday.

That plan held until 8pm on Friday, when we realized how early we'd have to start out and bardicstorm and I decided we'd be better off going up that night. Unfortunately, at the time of the decision making, he was still at work and we had no hotel room that night. Erk. Luckily the Day's Inn was able to accommodate us last minute (i.e. I called them at 8pm) with a King room with jacuzzi. [[ More on that later in the tale ]] bardicstorm got home about 11pm and we took off, telling Onyx that we'd be back the next day. [[ ha. ]]

Somewhere in the mountains of PA, we got hit with some of the worst fog I've ever encountered in my life. We seriously had all of 10 feet of visibility. It was quite frightening and slowed us down immensely. We got to Wilkes around 3 am. And entered our King room with jacuzzi.

Oh. My. Gods.

Now, I'd been picturing a bathroom with a really big tub. Nope. What we got was just off the bedroom - heart shaped - red - jacuzzi - with red and yellow neon lights in the ceiling and mirrors surrounding it. I about died laughing. I've never seen anything so horrible and tacky in all my life. Needless to say, we were both heartbroken to realize that we did not actually have any spare time in which to use the monstrosity. /sigh

Saturday's graduation ceremony was lovely. Most of it. It was, unfortunately, in a hockey arena so the sound quality was beyond terrible. And the people in back of us with the whistling really needed to have a sock shoved in their mouths. But! kumorisubeta walked across the stage to much cheering and did not trip! So yay!

We went back to my parent's hotel room to watch the Preakness, which was incredibly fun to watch all together and then went out to dinner for habachi. Which neither bardicstorm nor I had ever had before. What fun! But right before dinner, bardicstorm realized that he was in absolutely no shape to drive home that night, and my night vision is not so great. So off I went with my cell phone to see if I could get us another room. Day's Inn is the best... no jacuzzi this time though.

It was absolutely the right decision to make to stay another night. There was a thunderstorm and bardicstorm had worked a 12 hour day on Friday before driving all night. We went back on Sunday morning and that worked just fine - especially because we missed the terrible traffic closures that they are doing at night on I-280.

Onyx did fine. Graduation was great. Tonight I get to call tech support because we still have no home internet, but even that is deal-able.

travel, family
