I must express my love for a certain piece of music.
My opinion on Film scores is they are MASSIVELY underappreciated in our culture. A proper score can turn a stale scene into a masterpiece. It can fill in those quiet akward moments we all wish could be filled with music in real life. It can express the grandest of emotions.
My favorite film score of ALL time is Conan The Barbarian by Basil Poledouris. When you watch the movie, you recieve all the emotion from the characters onscreen. It's fascinating because the story takes place in a frightening, barbaric world where people express almost no emotion on their faces; every character has a pained stoic quality. So Basil Poledouris effectively expresses all the mood with music, and it's absolutely brilliant and captivating. The Conan character is someone who fought back from the lowest depths of exsistence to become a powerful free spirit, and the feeling of the whole score is of complete triumph over all negativity. I've been listening to this soundtrack for fucking YEARS and it always gets me pumped up for any experience life has to offer. I could run a goddamm marathon after listening to this thing!.
This means pretty much nothing to anyone who hasn't seen the movie, I know this. But it's one of those things that's so deep in my life, I feel like if you wanna know a little part of me more, you'd give it a listen. At least download the main theme "Anvil of Crom", it's a drum-based bit of complete power that bursts into an awesome fanfare in the middle, then becomes a pounding tribal stomp again at the end. If you don't feel like taking on the whole fucking world after listening to that song, then I don't know you.
