It says something about the tenor of the Republican primary race that Fred Thompson can just jump in the race and immediately shoot to the lead. May I remind you all, a Thompson has already entered -- and exited -- the presidential race!
Now, I'm not denying that some people could have the same impact on the Democratic primary if they entered *cough*Al Gore*cough*, but the Republican presidential field is in disarray if a candidate whom half of the voters have never heard of can go to the top of the heap immediately. For lovers of political train wrecks, watch the Republican primary race this winter. Regardless of what happens in the general election, it will be highly entertaining.
