I was just reminded why I don't understand some Republicans - or at least those of the gun toting, Palin loving, death to health care variety.
You can spout all you want about how health care reform is evil, but I bet if you were a doctor and forced to tell a patient that they were going to die because they were too poor - YOU would feel really fucking lousy. Moreover, I doubt you would feel blameless at the end of the day. My dad's a doctor. He's also a Republican. But I don't think I have EVER seen him turn away a patient. In fact, many times he was re-paid from poor patients in food, woodwork, and quilts. He NEVER would even think of not trying to help them. He takes his Hippocratic oath seriously. (and this is to note: Republican does NOT equal "death to healthcare" variety - I know that from personal experiance).
Which is why I don't understand how we can see these rabid protesters (from a bunch of sides) saying that it's okay for people to die.(side note: it's not okay for a doctor to advise on end of life care, but its okay for a person to die from lack of care - EXPLAIN That one to me!?)
That It's okay for a family of four to go bankcrupt because a child got sick. NO, it's fucking NOT okay. In what part of your brain is there no such thing as human empathy.
This goes beyond the tax issue and those too naive to think so - are just that - naive or just devoid of human emotion. Empathy and sympathy to those around us is what makes us human. Let's start acting like we are an evolved species please!
And yes, this lovely rant was sparked by one of my dearest friends - who just happens to think that health care is all that Sarah Palin says it is: abortionists, death panels, huge taxation, communism, yadda yadda. I love him dearly. I just know that if it was his own child though, it would be a different tune. Somehow things change when it happens to YOUR family. But I do understand his right to free speech. We are allowed to have these debates in our country. It's just a crying shame that ppl. are so stuck in their own minds, and not looking to the larger issue.
Healthcare is about both you, your family, and your nation. If you are healthy, chances are better than you will be happy and you'll have a healthier family. Now think about a nation of fit and happy people. Isn't that something to be desired *cough Sweden and Netherlands and Norway cough*
