Here is the Doctor Millais Culpin/(Probationer) Nurse Ethel Bennett from Casualty 1907 picspam! The first picspam, of Doctor James Walton/(Sister) Nurse Ada Russell, was posted a couple hours ago.
I haven't been able to find any real information besides that one link, did you find more? And OH MAN I'm glad I'm not alone in shipping these people LIKE. CRAZY. I feel kiiiind of weird about it because they were real, but then that fact is also fueling my love. I may or may not have daydreamed about Ethel taking the Matron job in China and Millais not knowing, and then when she got there he was just utterly shocked and stared at her and then they just *GLOMPED* in happiness =]. I want to know how it really happened! And I want to know more about what happened to Ethel.
the-hug-that-would-have-been-a-kiss-should-she-not-have-been-contagious HAHAHAAAAA I LOVE IT! I am so using that in the next picspam XD, I'll credit you for coining the phrase ;).
Basically in the episode Ethel was on night duty with Sister Russell and they had a rough night, and Millais had wanted to help people (♥) but had to go to dinner with that jerk Lawes and the head surgeon guy. The head surgeon was making the decision of who would be the new ..."house surgeon"? Something like that, the 2nd in command surgeon, and it was down to those two. The night was spent with Lawes talking about his published paper and Millais being all "=|...SIGH. I've had enough of sitting. I'm gonna go save lives now." and the surgeon making him stay. And then he chose Lawes and it was lame. So in the morning Ethel is looking out the window and sees Millais sitting on a bench outside looking very distressed and kind of hung over. She goes outside and brings him a glass with an egg yoke in it, telling him it will cure his hangover, and she smiles at him and walks away, but then he's watching her and she turns and smiiiiles, and then he turns around and the camera is on just him and he smiles to himself. ♥ So it was like a 30 second scene, tops.
Now that is freaky. I imagined that bit about him suddenly finding her in China too! I think we both did dream it though.. However, I'm kind of sad that she wasn't still Nurse Bennet when they met again. And what would he have called her? Surely Ethel would have been too informal, so Nurse Bennet, perhaps? What did he call her in the series??!! (Ooh, the obsession!)
You're welcome :)
Oh, squee, see, she looks after him even when they're not married. I can see her being the perfect doctor's wife. Just like Mary in Cranford.
Have you seen "The Painted Veil", because it's all turning out a bit like that, I seem to think. Apart from the whole wife-has-affair thing, because Ethel would never do that to the wonderful Dr Culpin.
I am actually going to have to write some fic for those two soon.
I think he called her Nurse Bennett or Probationer Bennett in the series, I don't think he ever called her Ethel, that would have been scandalous.
(I haven't read the Cranford book(s?), have you? I'm wondering if Mary and Jack really do end up together. There will be a Christmas special eventually, I hope it shows them getting together/together XD.)
OMG. Whilst daydreaming I thought that it was similar to Painted Veil! Similar time period and location! I also thought that they should realllllly make a movie about them, starring Charity and William, of course. It would span China, England, and Australia, it would be epic! And it would be so lovely =D.
I've got it, and I've, erm.. read all the bits with Jack in it! (I'm slightly in love with Joe McFadden) I know, how exciting! They'd better get together. They and Culpin/Ethel are my favourite couple this year, so far.
Now this is terrifying. We think the same! What about after they get married (avoiding real life events) Dr Culpin takes Ethel off into China to "go and save lives" in some poor village, liked in "The Painted Veil." And then Millais tries to stop a riot and gets shot in the leg by a Chinese person, and Ethel has to save him and do the operation, under his guidance!!! *dreams*
They don't actually feature in the same story. The Cranford on tv, that we all know and love, was compiled from three of Gaskell's novels, "Cranford", "My Lady Ludlow" and "Mr Harrison's Confessions." Mary features in "Cranford", whilst Jack stays in "Mr H's Confessions", so sadly, in book!Cranford!land, they never actually meet. :( However, the couple is so popular, I'm sure they will get the two of them together, or at least have more fluffy moments in the Christmas episode (so long as Jack is in it, which I don't know yet!!) :(
Fic will come eventually, I promise. My muse is stirring and is up and about. Now I just need the time...
