This week I discovered that I have a HUGE thing for Doctor/Nurse romances set anytime before the 1950s or so. I love nurses from then, for one, because these women fifty to hundreds of years ago were busting into a male field (yay early feminism and women's suffrage movement!), a certain field that I, today, would never ever have the courage or calm to work in, and add in romances involving doctors and I just... fail to resist. One of my favorite books is about a Doctor/Nurse relationship in the American Civil War ("Refiner's Fire: Fire by Night"), but until watching Casualty 1906 I never made the connection that that element of the relationship was one of the reasons why I loved it so. Do you guys have any Doctor/Nurse book or movie recommendations =D? (Just fyi Friends: this entry is public.)

Now for the Casualty 1906-1907 picspam! I am doing two, the first is for Doctor James Walton/(Sister) Nurse Ada Russell, the second will be for Doctor Millais Culpin/(Probationer) Nurse Ethel Bennett. Casualty 1906 was a one hour movie set during three days in December, 1906, at The London Hospital. The interesting thing about the movie (and series) is that all the characters are based on real people and all the events based on real events. Casualty 1907 is a series set right after the movie (a couple weeks later at the most, I'd say) with most of the same characters (well, people), consisting of three hour long episodes. I've only seen 2 of the 4 hours so far, but I highly recommend this series! Hopefully these picspams will entice you to watch =).

Meet Dr. Walton and Nurse Russell. They have a thing for eachother =).

*incoherent squeeing*

Trouble is, doctors and nurses working together at The London weren't allowed to have relationships. This pair likes eachother, but Ada is stressed by this rule.

'Loss. Of. Job.'

'...But ilu... =(.'
James proposes to Ada... a couple times... but she also loves her work at the hospital.

Sneaking into the closet together! They are so Grey's Anatomy.

Proposal #2. This time with a ring!

♥ ♥ ♥

They are all smug and cute when they see eachother around the hospital afterwards.

Secret rendezvous! In the hospital! SHOCKING!

Ada is worried someone will walk in and discover them.

'Loss. Of. Job.'

James: I'm leaving The London.
Ada: YOU?
James: Well one of us has to, you know the rules. [...] I've made demands of you that were unfair. But you see I couldn't help myself. I'm a fool.
Ada. Thank you.

My love for James in that scene knows no bounds. HE UNDERSTOOD. And he was willing to work somewhere else so that she could keep working herself. He is so ahead of his time and lovely!

Dancing about adorably ♥.

Happiness is short lived, though. This doctor who's a REAL skeaze ball came up to Ada and started talking about her and James and she played dumb. Later she called James, all upset that he had told someone.

He defends himself, saying that he was just bursting, and had been drinking, and HAD to tell someone. (THAT GUY, though, James? Really? He'll sort of pop up in the second picspam as well, he's a real jerk.)

Ada is overly upset by this, though, and when it comes down to it she still just doesn't know if she wants to marry James or not.

After James hangs up Ada says "Goodbye, James" in this real ominous and sad way.

The next day she is very distracted, though, and is clearly still very much undecided.

...SPOILER alert? If history can be a spoiler.
At the end of Casualty 1906, before BBC knew they would make a second installment, all of the characters/peoples' stories were vaguely summed up. One of the statements regarding James and Ada was that they never married. Still, I find myself shipping them. All aboard the doomed ship!
