I know, two in one day...
While starting my homework today, I was traditionally sidetracked by gaming and typing something other than what I'm being graded on (i.e. this.) However, I started playing Manhunt again, one of the most gratuitously violent games on the market. You could call it a stealth challenge for the ages, but it's one of the few games that's violent for the sake of violence. It's been seen as a sleeper hit by the gaming community, where only a certain niche of gamers find it to be truly "awesome," and most think so because of the stealth action; however,
the media goes ape shit over things like this, claiming that it is a murder simulator (which I'll admit it basically is) and via some transitive property, every game is a murder simulator. But I digress.
When I go through games, I generally look for story. Rockstar Games (Grand Theft Auto, Bully) usually does this incredibly; top-notch actors, and incredible writing make the games hard to put down. However, in Manhunt, all that I've really noticed is that you kill gang members (usually with a shard of glass or a plastic bag) and then the Director (voiced by Brian Cox) basically eggs you on. Nothing much else has happened, but I'm only on the third level, or scene. The menus are made to look like a DVD, with scene selections and unlockable bonus features. I'm going to keep going while I write a couple of ads for my Writing for TV and Film class.
Later,
Andy
p.s. Does anyone know if this gets any better?
