For those of you who have brown comp tickets, this is your last weekend to go to Dickens free. Just thought I'd give a head's up. If you've got red ones, they are only good for the 23rd, which will be a ghost town.
Dickens is looking pretty damn good this year.
No-miss things I would suggest:
-If you want to have tea at Cuthberts, have it at 12- the Tarts invade and raise havok most entertainingly.
-French Postcards (18+ event, partial nudity, not to mention more boys this year) is at both 4 and 5 this year *arrive 1/2 hour early if you want seats and you will also experience the "capitive audience show".
-The Great Race is new this year- mad pennyfarthing race (at snail pace with bizzarre and silly obsticles), happens directly after the second French Postcards show, leaving from there and ending at Mad Sal's
-The Turkish coffee at Mr. Brown's (next to the belly-dancing/harp stage). It's what esspresso wants to be when it grows up.
-obviously, the Dark Garden windows with their lovely "Mechanicals".
-a dance at Fezziwigs, if you dance.
-George's voice (As seen in Brass Farthing men's singing group).
-and of course, and most especially, the Mad Sal's Blowout, starting around 6 and going until closing, my favorite parts of which are the can-can and the 12 days of Christmas as performed by tarts, silly men and can-can girls.
As to shops, Steven Overstreet is there and (while not really Victorian unless you go with the Pre Raphaelite line) his ladies clothing is gorgeous as always. If you ever wanted Anara from Firefly's wardrobe, this is probably where she would shop.
Keep your eye out for the various Dicken's books being performed on the streets al day (Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Nicholas Nickleby, Great Expectations, etc. ...and for local Gentleman wandering the streets getting their pockets picked by scum like I'll be playing. I will be slumming at Mad Sal's most of the day, playing dice, accepting challenges, and toying with knives.
