good day

I had a great day with my family. Ice skating with Steve’s 3 girls, then they helped me cook veggie shepard’s pie, which turned out to be a big hit. The youngest, Emma, has developed a taste for mashing the hell out of potatos. She starts timidly, but she really likes it, so I encourage her by saying ”Kill! Kill!” It’s good for her, *grins* they were raised too passively.

The rest of us also had our Christmas Tamales, wrapped in Banana leaves for dinner.

After dinner I spun fire in front of the house for everyone. The snow was absolutely glittering, and the skies were clear with bright stars. So beautiful. Amelia got some photos of the spinning when the flames were dying down, so they came out blue. Haven’t seen many spinning pictures like that, and it looked awesome.

Afterwards, pictionary in front of the fire with all the kids, my godfather, my uncle, mom, Allan, Sam, Amelia… It was awesome. Much fun and shrieking. Now the house it utterly, completely quiet and it’s almost eery.

There was a really great article on my Grandfather in the “Tufts Nutrition” magazine. Besides the fact that they have to constantly use the word “kinetic” to describe him, my favorite bit is him saying that his work took him away from his family (in Guatemala) and “when I would go away, there would be an earthquake, or a volcanic eruption or a revolution”. Madness.
