Job get

I found a job working for one of the valet subcontractors that staffs a variety of events and establishments.  I'll be bouncing around from one event to another on an as-needed basis.  I had an interview at 12:15 Thursday and by 1:30 I was working.  They threw me to the sharks, sink or swim, and I think I just ended up confusing the sharks long enough to get away.  My "training" was 9 hours of being shown a thing or two and then learning on the fly.  I must have impressed them because they asked me to come back at 7am next morning.  A clopen my first day?  Sure, why not?

Anyway, today was my second day, 11 hours of it, and quite the adventurous one.  In case you didn't hear, there was a hostage situation in Pittsburgh this morning.  The hotel I was valeting at is connected to the building where that took place.  They shut down our block, no in or out (except for the sniper that walked into our lobby), all the while guests are asking us for info we didn't have.  It was a complete fustercluck as the boss negotiated with the cops to get some guests out, while I was made to dispatch by the seat of my pants.  We did the best that we could with what we had, which wasn't much.

I hurt, too. A lot.  I went from six weeks of couch potato to some pretty hard P.T. running the 100 yards between the hotel and the garage, 20 times the first day and 40 times the second.  A this rate I should be back to my high school weight in a month (if my legs can last that long).  Now they want me to do a 13-hour overnighter at a nightclub Sunday into Monday.  That's what I'm talking about.  Big money.

A side note worth mentioning.  Having employment again is doing wonders for my moods (the cash tips are a big reason).   I wasn't the least bit stressed until towards the end of my shift (which they never really told me when it would end, either) when my meds started petering out.  It didn't help when when I was told by one boss to go home and another boss told me to stay after I've already pulled my truck up.  They are most effective when I am active, and boy did they earn their keep today.  During the most hectic moments, I just felt like I could deal with...whatever.  It was great, just handling guests and smiling and organizing, and kind of enjoying it in some twisted way. That in and of itself is worth the price of those meds.  While the others were stressing out, I was just dealing.  I dare say if it weren't for those pills, I might not have lasted through it.  But if I can last through today, of all days, I should be good as gold.
