Well that was interesting....

First off. Work is going reall y well I LOVE MY JOB!!! It's fantastic. My hours are coming up quickly. I've had to start refusing hours! Crazy!

Anyway I got a letter from licensing body saying "You now meet the qualifications of being a nurse. Please go get a new CPIC (Canadian police records check thing) because yours expired on July 30th and send is $180 and you'll be a fully registered nurse here."

Brilliant. CPICs are only "Valid" for 6 months, then you need another one. Since mine expired in the process of applying I needed a new one. URGH! It wouldn't be too bad but it's $42!! here! Sheesh!! All you do is type my name and birthdate into a computer and it spits out if i'm been convicted or paroled or whatever!! (I used to get them free from the RCMP, and when I lived in NB they were only $15! Talk about a price hike!)

So once I finished with my two clients today. I came home filled out the form and went to the police station. Before I left I tweeted. "Off to the police station" and my friends responded: "Please tell me you're NOT in the back of a cruiser right now". "Finally turning yourself in are we?". "It wasn't me!!!!! I didn't do it! Nooo!! I don't want to go to jail.". "I always knew your past would catch up to you." and of course "Ooo what's his name?".

Yup I love my friends.

Anyway so I've never been to this police station before, but I've driven past it go knows how many times. So once I figure out where the entrance is, and the parking I pull in. It' actually a really nice building I think it was built in 2002. It's shiny. Anyway Once you go in the front doors there are these HUGE!!!! Notices that say something like "Please do not bring explosives fire arms or ammunition into the police station. Please leave these items in your car and inform us of what you have, and we'll come out and get them. K? Thanks."(well something like that) In bright red letters and everything. I saw this and was like Uhhhhhhh wow people are really that stupid?? (Then again based on all of the cop blog I follow it wouldn't surprise me!).

Anyway so I go in and there are three officers behind the glass all looking a tiny bit bored. So I go up to the one in the middle tell her I need a CPIC hand her all of the paper work and my ID's. I wanted 4 copies, but they'll only do two free. (Which seems REALLY silly) Anyway so she typed my name and info into the computer. Waited less than 30 seconds and then filled out the whole "The above person with the stated name and birthday as no previous current convictions, parole etc etc etc". (Akak she but an "X" in the box) then pressed the seal on the paper... yup that's it. And she couldn't give me two extra copies with-out charging me an extra $42 (I suspect another officer might have, but oh well that's neither here nor there). All of that(An "X" in a box a signature and a seal) cost me $42!!

Yes that's the boring part of my day. Here comes the interesting public is stupid part.
I was paying and picking up my sheets getting ready to leave when this guy walks in with a box. I wasn't paying any attention to him but he went up to the officer on my right and said something. "I'm not sure what these are but I found them when I was cleaning out a house I own after a renter left. My son thinks they are blasting caps, but i'm not so sure so I thought i'd bring them in for you to see."

I could hear the collective groan of the officers as soon as he said that. I can't remember which blogger it was but I've read a similar story from one of my cop bloggers. (Someone brought in a box of blasting caps and they had to evacuate the building until the bomb squad cleared it). Anyway the officer who the guy was talking to was like. "Didn't you see the sign you're not supposed to bring stuff like that in here!!! Just leave the box there and do not touch it! Step away from the counter. I'll come around" anyway I finished paying for my CPIC and the officer shoves all of the papers at me. I thanked her and left quickly. On my way out I heard one of the officers behind the desk calling for a bomb dog.

*sigh* that is why I do not envy the job that police officers have!

In other news I have my CPIC so I should be getting my RN license soon!
