Hallelujah! It's raining men!

Apr 16, 2006 00:36

Happy Easter! Have an entirely inappropriate music post. I have been powered solely by rage and spite for the past month or so, which is sort of unfortunate but at least the weather is improving and there's a good thing. I wanted to have a theme of Angry Shouty Music, but now that I am more mellowed out, it feels a bit weird. But they're already uploaded, so no sense in wasting them. For testing purposes only, delete after twenty four hours, support the artists, etc.

The Offspring - Gone Away. You can't have an Angry Shouting Music Post without The Offspring! Hell, this whole music post could easily be Offspring. It's what they do best. I like how all their songs seem like a race between the band members to get to the end as quickly and loudly as possible.

Man, this song brings me back to high school. I remember the unfinished story I used to associate it with. In retrospect, I feel a bit silly when I reread it, but I still quite like parts of it.

And it feels
And it feels like
Heaven’s so far away
And it stings
Yeah, it stings now
The world is so cold
Now that you’ve gone away

The Offspring - Bad Habit. Anyway, it was really hard to decide which Offspring songs to go with since they're all kind of, you know, loud and angry. But this one is damnably fun to drive to.

Hey man, you know I'm really okay
The gun in my hand will tell you the same
But when I'm in my car, don't give me no crap
Because the slightest thing and I just might snap

When I go driving I stay in my lane
But getting cut off, it makes me insane
I open the glove box, reach inside
Gonna wreck this fucker's ride

I guess I got a bad habit
Of blowin' away

The Offspring - She's Got Issues. There are some songs I really like listening to, even though they make me feel so guilty for enjoying them. Someday, I should rip the scab off the wound and just post a whole lot of songs that I have a hard time admitting that I enjoy them because they're so stupid, profane, sugary, or what have you. Anyway, this song always cheers me up and I sing along loudly, even though I've been fortunate enough never to date anyone this psychotic.

I'm seeing this girl and she just might be out of her mind
Well, she's got baggage and it's all the emotional kind
She talks about closure and that validation bit
I don't mean to be insensitive, but I really hate that shit

And I said yeah, yeah
Oh man, she's got issues and I'm gonna pay
Yeah, yeah, she says she's the victim, yeah

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. I don't think there are many people who don't have this song, or at least haven't heard of it, but you never know. I mean, it's Nirvana, dude. Is there any real point to posting Nirvana lyrics? You could never understand what the hell he was saying anyway. Regardless.

With the lights out it’s less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an albino
A mosquito, my libido
Yeah

And I forget
Just what it takes
And yet I guess it makes me smile
I found it hard, it's hard to find
Oh well, whatever, never mind

Nirvana - In Bloom. Nirvana had two settings, which were "loud and angry" or "quiet and creepy". I sort of want to do "quiet and creepy" for the next music post. However, another loud and angry one for now.

He’s the one
Who likes all our pretty songs
And he likes to sing along
And he likes to shoot his gun
But he don't know what it means
Don't know what it means

Smashing Pumpkins - Bullet with Butterfly Wings. Again with the high school association. The Pumpkins were so versatile. They did loud and angry, quiet and creepy, quiet and sweet, loud and weird, instrumental, upbeat, downbeat, right side, left side-- you get the point. The video for this song is a lot of fun to watch.

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage
Then someone will say what is lost can never be saved
Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

And I still believe that I cannot be saved

The Rezillos - Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight. Actually, this really isn't a very angry song. It's more of a genial destruction song. But it's certainly very shouty, and it qualifies on basis of the title alone. I got this off the Jackass soundtrack, which actually has a surprisingly high number of good songs on it.

Well, now the cats are rockin' and everyone's feelin' all right - all right
Say, on a Wednesday evening there's sure gonna be a fight - yeah, a fight
I say, somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonight

Well, now the bodies movin' and everyone's shouting for more - more
I say, there's gonna be a pool of blood on the dancehall floor - on the floor
I say, somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonight

We're gonna rip up the chairs - tear down the walls
Smash up the back - and really have a ball
All of us boys gonna be in full dress
And the whole dance floor'll be a doggone mess

Well, everybody's a-rockin' and everyone's feelin' all right - all right
Said, on a Wednesday evening there's sure gonna be a fight - yeah, a fight
I say, somebody's gonna get their head kicked in tonight

Put a boot in!

Blue October - Angel. I love this song, although quoting any part of it makes me feel like an emo loser. The lyrics might look a bit stupid on paper, but they sound a lot better when they're being hoarsely screamed with a lot of guitar riffs in the background, just like political campaign speeches.

Oh, would you be me?
Because I would be you
Oh, you’d be happy
Only if you wanted to
And how would you treat me?
Because I would treat you
You’d be happy
Only if you wanted to

Green Day - She. Green Day has gone through many phases, including Loud and Angry. I think I lose about fifty characterization hit points for perpetually associating this song with Aeris Gainsborough. Every time I try to explain it, people always just look at me pityingly, shake their head, and walk away. Although really, it works for just about any outwardly quiet heroine with internal issues. I mean, maybe Anthy-- okay, just download it.

She...
She screams in silence
A sullen riot penetrating through her mind
Waiting for a sign
To smash the silence with a brick of self-control

Are you locked up in a world
That's been planned out for you?
Are you feeling like a social tool without a use?

Scream at me until my ears bleed
I'm taking heed just for you

Metallica - Sad But True. Sometimes, it’s just a Black Album sort of day. I have nothing more to say, really. If you're into loud angry music, you listen to Metallica at some point. From when they didn't suck, I mean.

I’m your dream, make you real
I’m your eyes when you must steal
I’m your pain when you can’t feel
Sad but true

I’m your dream, mind astray
I’m your eyes while you’re away
I’m your pain while you repay
You know it’s sad but true

Andrew WK - Ready to Die . Another "Not Really An Angry Song But Certainly A Good Song To Smash Things And Possibly Get In A Fight To." Plus, it's Andrew WK. It's got energy. It's got heart. It's such a fun song, seriously.

This is your time to pay,
This is your judgement day,
We made a sacrifice,
And now we get to take your life.

We shoot without a gun,
We'll take on anyone,
It's really nothing new,
It's just a thing we like to do.

These aren't a very good representation, but they're what I had on hand for the moment. I mean, we didn't even get into the Rammstein or the NIN or the E Nomine or Rage Against the Machine. It was fun talking to people though, and getting their best choices.

The weather has been beautiful this past week, and so it's a bit of a diappointment to have thunderstorms forecast for tomorrow. The cherry blossoms exploded into bloom two weeks ago, and they've almost lost all their petals. Last week's thunderstorm stripped a lot of them off the trees, and after the rain finished falling, the entire asphault driveway looked like a poem by Ezra Pound.

Well, that's what I'd be thinking if I were the pope.

papal hijinks, music post
