Just an expanded explanation of a couple of tweets I posted earlier:
My view in the "battle" between Android and iOS is that iOS equals the better OS. I have personally found it to be MUCH more stable, another plus is that iOS devices are usually able to upgrade to the latest version for at least a couple of years. Unlike some Android devices, which may get only one major OS update and that's if your lucky!
My example of this: I have an "old" Xperia U, for some time Sony were toying with the idea of realising Android Jelly Bean for the device, when shipped the phone came with Gingerbread. The Gingerbread install worked pretty well, but some users, myself included found the Ice Cream Sandwich ROM to be pretty laggy and unstable.
I was hoping that a Jelly Bean ROM would cure this, but Sony dropped support/development for the ROM without stating much as to why? I think the official reasoning was a lack of RAM? Why did Sony say there will be a Jelly Bean ROM if the device couldn't support it hardware wise in the first place?
I now, less than a year into owning the Xperia U have a laggy and unstable device, I couldn't get the GPS or Google Maps to work properly the other day. I arrived late to an event because of this. Typing is also a laggy nightmare, less than a year in the phone is very unusable. I have tried wiping to factory settings and this doesn't help the laggyness or stability either. :-(
The iPod touch 4G (My only iOS device.), I bought for a very reasonable price around six months ago, however is wonderful. :-) Although it cannot run iOS 7, it runs most apps well. Apple also gave the full reasoning behind not releasing iOS 7 for the model, stating memory (RAM) and the battery as the main reasons not to bring iOS 7 to the 4G. Unlike the Xperia, the touch still works perfectly and doesn't feel too outdated!
