52 Mondays and Going Public for 2014

I've been writing quite a lot in the last year or two, but have pretty much locked down to completely private entries. Way too much water under the bridge and too much figuring out stuff to put it out there. But planning to make 2014 way more about writing and living purposefully. I started a facebook group called 52 Mondays - with a focus on purposeful living -- and self-improvement if you want to call it that. I'm planning to make an entry once a day all year. Scary. This is one of the first posts from that group. In the interest of multitasking and full disclosure, I'll probably be using a lot of those posts to build on here throughout the year.

Affirmation for 2014: I am the architect of my life; I build its foundation and choose its contents.

I've been reading a lot lately. One of the things I read said to NOT set goals. His reasoning was that a goal either gets you to a finish line where you are "done," and therefore quit; or it sets you up for failure because you don't accomplish the goal in a specific amount of time. I think goals definitely have a place, but for the purposes of my plans for this year, I'm going to try to think of things in terms of the direction I want to go in. When I was discussing how to "label" things without calling them goals, a brilliant friend of mine suggested thinking of things in terms of chapters - which the writer in me loves. What chapters do I want to write this year? When we are ringing in 2015 and I'm looking back on 2014, what do I want to have accomplished? Where do I want to be? Who do I want to have spent time with?

What foundation am I going to build and what contents will I invite in?

If you'd like to play along at home, let me know and I can add you to my facebook group . . . .in the next few days, I've asked the group to post something about what they would like to have accomplished or what direction they would like to be heading in during 2014. It might just help to put something out there and have friends help hold you accountable for checking on it to see if it needs food or water once a week or so. It might just help you get where you want to go.
