a series of unrelated things

1. Returned from my driving lesson today (go me and backing into a parking space! Woohoo! Got it after seven tries!) to find a package waiting for me on the kitchen table. Since it's Sunday, I was very curious. What did it turn out to be? A giant envelope full of handmade Christmas cards from my former second-graders! *melts* It was so ( Read more... )

Smeagol is on the other side. It's actually a cool picture. I do like Gollum. He's just...not someone I want to look at one a regular basis, you know? Not when there are so many other, prettier alternatives. *sigh* Oh, well.

Of course, we don't know how old Tonks is, only that she is by far the youngest of the Advance Guard, which I take to mean she's in her early- to mid-twenties, since Remus is only 35 or so... She'd also have to be young enough to have been /too/ young to be a member of the first Order...so I'm guessing she's no older than 27.

*thinks* Bill is probably in his late twenties, then. What is he doing with 18-year-old Fleur???

*sigh* I guess I don't have to do too much fudging to get them in the same year at Hogwarts. Hee. I don't know if they'll hook up then, but they'll have fun together.

Have figured it out! I'm so disgusted with myself... Oh, well.

In PS McGonagall says they haven't won since Charlie was Seeker. In PoA, Wood says they haven't won in seven years. 1993 - 7 = 1986, the year Charlie would have graduated. If he was 17 or 18 at the time, he'd be 26 or 27 in OotP, and Bill would be a year or two older...making him too old for Fleur! But either of them could get it on with Tonks, no problem. ^__^

HP Lexicon puts Charlie's last year at Hogwarts in 1984-85 and says he was born in 1967, with Bill a year or two older. I'd swear the 1984 date was mentioned in conjunction with Charlie and the last time Gryffindor won the Quidditch Cup (or maybe it's the Slytherin winning streak of 7 or 8 years when Harry arrives in '91 that's mentioned?), but my grasp of dates is always so-so.

I tend to make Bill 28-29ish, and I think Tonks is probably 22-24ish (I think Harry says she looks 22, but he's not necessarily reliable). So they may have overlapped, but I doubt they hung out together, if there are 5 or 6 years between them.

Personally, I'm hoping for Tonks/Charlie in Book 6.

Thanks. :) I'll take Bill/Tonks or Charlie/Tonks. The woman deserves a Weasley, I don't care greatly which. (But Bill/Fleur is beginning to squick me, mostly because of the age difference. O_o ) All I remember from OotP is that Tonks is by far the youngest of the Advance Guard and that she was too young to be a member of the original Order, so I'm guessing she's somewhere between 24 and 27. I guess there's room for interpretation.

Ah, so the gaki-s (brats) got you cards? that's really nice of them.
You can mail them disney stickers & powerpuff stickers. they'd prolly get a big kick out of that.
::twiddles thumbs:: i think if i was a kid i'd want sweets too, but since that's out it makes it kind of hard.

How about storybooks in english? like big print ones (like how you got me those two super cook kiddy books with the guinea pigs in them! stuff like that rocks, regardless of your age). Although that might be kind of expensive to mail cause of the weight, but if you find soft cover ones that might be good. i don't know if you can get access to them there in minnesota, but the kinokuniya here and the asahiya sometimes have bilingual english and japanese storybooks.

Kawaii-desune???? You didn't get to meet these particular kids when you came to see me. They're my favourites. I'm still all melty. *sigh* Okay, stickers, maybe some pictures, although there's really nothing exciting in Minnesota. I mean, these kids live right near Kyoto.

Books might be a nice idea. I don't even know if there's a library at Takaho. There must be, but I don't think I was ever in it. Maybe I can send them some easy picture books anyway. This'll be fun to put together! Aw. kidlets.

I know, right? I've seen covers with Eowyn and Aragorn (not together) but...why Gollum? *sigh* Maybe I should be less looksist?

I remember when I took a trip to Korea (my parents' homeland) a couple years ago. My mom packed a bunch of American sweets and such to take with her, because that type of thing used to be really coveted and rare. Well, a lot's changed since she was young, obviously, and thanks to trade *coughimperialismcough,* you can get anything anywhere. Makes it hard to give meaningful country-to-country gifts. Hmm...someone mentioned Disney stickies and such. I bet they'd appreciate that. Also, perhaps you could include pictures? I'm not sure where you live, or where they live, but some contrast of the environment would be cool for them to see; I like to send pictures of snowstorms to my friend in Wales.

There are Gollum-fangirls? Oi. Hmm...there is something at once offputting and, well, cute about him, I'll admit. He reminds me of a cat. A nasty, balding, earless cat, albeit, but...uh, yuh. :X

I like that description of Gollum! I don't know about the fangirls... I rather hope not, but one never knows.

Ooh! Ooh! Have had brainwave re: kids! They're all into Snoopy over there. Snoopy is from Minnesota! Really! I wonder if I can find them some fun Snoopy stuff. They'd love that.

*G* Glad I could be a part of...present for...your ideaness. I forgot Snoopy was from Minnesota. Scary that I knew that in the first place...I used to be a big fan. :)

*Waits for MC to be finished*

*Yes...hinting* :X

Oh, it's finished (although I'm still unsure about the middle part). It's in the hands of my wonderful betas right now. *g* You might not like the ending. No puppy-angst, but Peter's getting sinister... *cackles*
