For the past few months, I've avoided political commentary here because I do enough of that off-line and this is my Escapeland.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton defended staying in the Democratic nominating contest on Friday by pointing out that her husband had not wrapped up the nomination until June 1992, adding, “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California.” (The link goes to the NY Times article.)

1. I know what she meant. She meant that anything can happen before the Democratic Convention, Obama's nomination is not a sure thing (though it very nearly is). But COME ON. What possessed her to phrase it like that? It sounds like a threat. And, I mean, it's not like Obama has any reason to feel threatened. (Link goes to a Washington Post article.)

2. Ted Kennedy is dying. Even if he weren't one of the most respected members of your party in the Senate, Clinton, you might want to show a little respect and, you know, not invoke the name of his murdered brother to cast doubts on the future of the man he's endorsed. Just a suggestion.

You know, if she did somehow end up with the nomination, I'd vote for her. And if she ends up being Obama's running mate, I'll support that too because I may loathe the tone of her campaign and her pandering, but her stances on many important issues are quite similar to his and McCain would be a fucking disaster. But I won't be happy about it. The depth of my disappointment is a measure of the respect I once had for her.
