Cristina came in with a plate of jelly donuts. She pushed one into her mouth and dropped the rest onto the table with a loud clatter.

Burke folded his newspaper. "What's this?" he asked, eyeing the donuts warily.

"Ee uhn," ordered Cristina.

"What?"

She swallowed. "Eat one."

Burke reached across the table and, with his fingertip, dabbed the jelly and powdered sugar from Cristina's lips. "Why? You know I don't eat donuts." He started to unfold his newspaper.

Cristina snatched it and held it out of his reach behind his back as she straddled his waist. "Just shut up and humor me."

"Just so you know," Burke said as he took a donut, "right at this moment, you're cute. In another moment-"

"Oh, eat."

He took a nibble, chewed slowly, swallowed.

"There," said Cristina triumphantly.

"What?"

"That was it."

"That was what?"

"That was Hanukkah, Yang style. Still cute?"

"Cute," said Burke, "bordering on odd."

Cristina kissed his chin, then jumped to her feet. "Whatever, happy holidays, let's go. Bailey had better the hell let me scrub in today."
