Is anyone else watching "Galavant"? It's cute so far! I called my BFF tonight to ask - among other things - if she was watching the show, and the first thing she said to me was, "Hi, Rachel - btw, are you watching 'Galavant'?" It's like we've known each other for 34 years or something ( Read more... )

I frequently want to make comments during a movie, but at least I lean my head in and whisper. Yeah, talking in movie theaters is annoying. What really gets me are parents who talk in regular conversational voices DURING A SCHOOL PERFORMANCE. Like, elementary kids' concerts or talent shows. Talk about disrespect ( ... )

I thought it was implied that they made out. Maybe I read too much into it.

My best friend, who loves the play, told me that yes, Rapunzel gets stepped on in the original. So I'm glad she at least survives, and we can hope that her prince isn't a loser. :P

I don't know if/when "Galavant" will be rebroadcast. I watched it on Hulu+.

My memories of the original are a decade or so old, but IIRC: In the original Rapunzel gets stepped on, and the two princes move remorselessly on to Snow White and Sleeping Beauty in a sardonic reprise of "Agony". I'm glad Rapunzel's prince got to be faithful in the movie ( ... )

Ahhh, that makes more sense, then. And I'm glad Sondheim acknowledged that the changes change the tone of the story. Though in a movie with no intermission, you need to be economical. *side eyes Peter Jackson*

I liked what the movie did in terms of the narration. It made things a little more hopeful.

No, you're not alone! I'm always shocked when I go to see live performances and people in the audience are talking. It just seems like one of those things people should KNOW not to do. I'd like to have a buzzer so I could zap people who talk. *g*

I could just squirt them with a squirt bottle, like errant cats. (Not that I do that to my cats.) That would be satisfying.

I enjoyed Into the Woods a lot. I don't think I'd say it's my favorite musical ever, but I thought they did a fairly good job of translating it to film the best they could (from what I've read on wikipedia.) I was very surprised when my daughter said it was her new favorite musical! I thought Wicked was going to hold that spot for her forever. Totally gobsmacked by that one. Although, I think I really need an icon of Princess Pine as Prince Charming. And a crack about sincerity. Or maybe agony. I fucking laughed my ass off at that song.

I understand your frustration with the talkers. It seems like it's gotten worse since cell phones. Folks are so used to having them attached to their ears or under their fingers, that they can't seem to stop trying to talk with/at someone in some way. I have been known to ask people to put cell phones away and also to remind them as sarcastically as possible that I came to watch/listen to a movie and not the audience.

The shirt-ripping! That was perfect. Shades of Kirk.

I get that going to the movies or a show or wherever is a social thing, but yeesh. How do people not know proper audience etiquette?? Yeesh.

Which is why I rarely go to the local movie theatre these days. In my neck of the woods we get pot smokers in the theatre along with the texters/talkers. Doesn't matter what time of the day/evening. There's always the pot stink or the texting, at the very least. If I complain to the management they just shrug at me and offer me a refund but don't bother dealing with the pot smokers/texters/talkers. If one tries to confront somebody on their own, over here, it's taking your life into your own hands. So, If I see a film in the cinema at all, it will be at an cinemaphile type place, (such as the Arclight or the Cinemateque) where they police it pretty well--but those places are ridiculously expensive, so the film has to be worth it so that only happens like, once a year ( ... )

I thought people would have the sense/decency to be quiet in a Broadway theater, but apparently not. *hands in the air* I was tempted to talk to an usher, but the people talking were OLD, and I felt really weird lecturing people twice my age. And I didn't want to upset my dad, who was there with me, and who has anxiety.

That's actually a great theater story. Maybe not so great at the time, but hopefully something you can look back on and laugh about. *g*

Mr. Pine was very good in "Into the Woods." It almost felt like he was playing a parody of himself, but it totally worked for the character. He doesn't have a fantastic voice, but the boy can carry a tune.
