I've ordered a blender! One of those little wand-things. I'm excited about this. I haven't had a blender since I moved here. I'm going to make yummy soup and smoothies (when it's not ridiculously cold).

There's a very good chance I'll be in the Twin Cities this coming weekend, from Friday night to Monday afternoon. I think my mommy may be planning something for Saturday or Sunday, but whichever day I'm free, if any of you are free, perhaps there could be meet-ups.

OMG, I'll be thirty two weeks from tomorrow. O_O OMG, three decades of me! The two in the middle weren't so spiffing, but I have high hopes for the next one.
Just thought I'd put that out there.

Yet another fandom meme, copied from
boosette:
First Fandom of 2009: The Dragonriders of Pern. I'd written
To Harp and To Hold as a Yuletide 2008 pinch hit. Mostly I liked it (Alemi/Elgion are practically canon, who was McCaffrey kidding?) but I'd worried. Partly because the recipient hadn't specified any characters, only that she wanted slash, and partly because I thought I was taking a risk with a certain joke I decide to throw in because it amused me and I couldn't stop myself. *g* But people really liked it!
So, emboldened, I wrote
Who Tries, Does as a New Years Resolution. And people really liked that one too! And also, I'd un-killed Wirenth, so I had a big-ass AU unfolding in my mind. I wrote two sequels. There's a third - and final one - in-progress, but it's been in-progress since the spring, so...
Favorite Main Character of 2009: Doctor Leonard Horatio McCoy. He's always been one of my favorite characters ever, but I'd kind of forgotten about him since DeForest Kelley's death in 1999. (Not forgotten, really, just not thought of very often.) The love came roaring back with a vengeance when I saw Karl Urban in the role in the new film. ROAWR. He's so awesome. The character, I mean. (Though I ♥ both actors, and I will not say that Urban is better just because he's prettier. Though he is pretty.) That abrasive compassion, the fact that he does the thing that scares him, the self-sacrificing... Guh. That's my Bones.
(Also: was absolutely not expecting to love the new Kirk as much as I do. I still don't care for Shatner, but Pine brought a sort of brash, youthful vulnerability to the role and I like it. Plus he is easy on the eyes, omg.)
Favorite Villain of 2009: Kylara! OMG, I had fun writing about her in
Who Wills, Can and
Who Loves, Lives. Naughty, naughty, woman! She is a walking id and she is fabulous. Damn, I wish McCaffrey had kept her on as a villain, maybe teamed her up with Thella or Toric. What a wonderful foil for Lessa she could have been.
Favorite Video Game Character of 2009: I didn't play any.
Favorite Het Couple of 2009: Scotty/Gaila was fun to write, but Spock/Uhura gave me paroxysms of GLEE when I saw it on-screen! I love that the writers took that risk, and I think it worked. Spock and Uhura definitely had some chemistry in TOS, particularly the earlier episodes. And I loved seeing Uhura's intelligence, emotional maturity, and beauty recognized by Spock - probably the most desired man in the franchise. It was such a delightful IN YOUR FACE to the racist execs from the 60s who wouldn't even give Uhura a one-shot romantic interest. Also, they are very very pretty together.
Favorite Femslash Couple of 2009: I failed at femslash in 2009. I didn't write any. I'm trying to remember if I squealed over any... Well, I stayed with Grey's Anatomy as long as I did for the Meredith/Cristina interaction. I still think they'd be better off with each other than their respective canon romantic interests. Callie/Arizona made me happy, but it wasn't enough to keep me interested in the show.
I suppose
Atonement was the closest I came to femslash last year. But it's really gen about Faith and Buffy. I just feel like Faith is secretly having sex with everyone, even when she's not.
Favorite Slash Couple of 2009: Kirk/McCoy, where the hell did you come from???? I was supposed to see the light and ship Kirk/Spock after seeing XI. But, no - because Spock/Uhura was awesome, and I'd remembered why I never saw Kirk and Spock as more than the very best of friends in TOS: McCoy! But then I came up with this scenario where Spock and Uhura are off somewhere making out, and Kirk and McCoy are drinking, and Kirk's all, "I can't believe she chose that sentient computer over me! I'm so awesome!" etc., etc.. And then he kind of slams his drink down and stares at McCoy, who's staring back at him burningly. And then they both rise at the same time, and somehow they're suddenly on the same side of the table, mouths mashed together, hands all over each other.
And then suddenly I was a shipper!
Fandom That You Never Expected to Get Into: I didn't get into anything new this year. Just rediscovered old loves.
Fandom That Made an Unexpected Comeback: I was a fan of the original movies (well, II, IV, and VI) as a child, and I grew up with TNG and DS9. I was not expecting to fall head over heels for the Reboot, though I'd been looking forward to it.
Fandom That Inspired the Most Crack: Star Trek, hands down. Though not so much from me. Though I suppose there's
this. And
this.
Last Fandom of 2009: I thought it was going to be Prydain or Voltron, since that's what I wrote for Yuletide. But no, with three hours left, I got in one last
Trek fic.
