amazingly, I am posting

yup, it's pretty incredible but here comes my first post in quite a few months. I told cameron that if he made me his friend on livejournal, I'd start writing here again.

so what have I been doing for the past... 5+ months?

I did pretty well last semester in my classes, and this semester seems to be going alright (although having two high level math classes is kind of difficult). I officially declared that I'd be an English/Math double major, and I hope to add Creative Writing as a minor when they let me. Right now, we're not allowed to have two majors and a minor, but my advisor told me they were going to change that eventually. I need to remember to e-mail the Creative Writing department, because I think that the fiction writing / poetry writing courses are generally reserved for creative writing minors, and because I don't currently have said minor declared, I am afraid I'll get shafted when it comes time to register for classes.

I feel sort of stagnant writing-wise, and I really feel that getting to take a fiction writing class will get me out of my slump. I always feel inspired to write at bad times, and when I get back and finally have some free time, the feeling goes away and I just feel lethargic. Right now my roommate is sleeping, and the lights are off. I don't have a working lamp so late at night I just sorta sit here in the dark with the glow of my laptop screen illuminating the general area. I really need to buy a new light bulb. I have three jars of salsa sitting next to me, and two in the fridge. Only one of said jars actually has a sizable amount of salsa in it. I am the salsa king (so much so that I actually went and "learned" to salsa dance. I learned in the sense that I kind of remember the basic steps and I suck horribly at it.) However, I went swing dancing with Laurel and Cameron (female) the other night and it was good fun. I actually could do everything they showed us after a bit of practice and wisdom from fellow dancers (thanks Laurel), which surprised me.

My philosophy class is really quite interesting. I'm taking an Honors seminar where we read a bunch of stuff that investigates the Socratic method (I think that's the subject matter anyway). Right now, we're investigating Plato's Republic, and it's really interesting stuff.

Play Analysis is pretty worthless. It is so frustrating being in a class where everyone just says obvious stuff and we really learn nothing. However, I liked the play I saw a few weeks ago (Frozen), which was about a man who raped and killed numerous children, and the workings behind his fetish. I am really interested in that kind of stuff in general (crimelibrary.com ftw), just because it really mystifies me that humans could behave in such a manner. That sort of stuff is definitely inspiration for my creative writing because it seems so surreal to me.

I didn't particularly mean for this to be a summary of my academics. In general, I hang out with people everyday, and we eat dinner or go watch movies or play board games or whatever. I'm still not a big drinker so I kind of neglect that side of college life, but I'm not all that opposed to it. That's kind of a funny statement, considering that I'm signing up for Substance Free housing next semester. I'm mainly signing up 'cause my friend Mason lives there and it'll be better to room with a friend than with my current roomie.

Alright, I guess I'm gonna head to bed in a sec. This is a pretty long post, so I hope Cameron is most pleased with my length (I'm sure from past experience that it'll satisfy him just fine).

Willy T signin' out.
